Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a cross breed between a Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, making them a designer breed. They are smart, lovable, and have a sweet, gentle personality. They have a unique look, with a black coat and the iconic white blaze on their nose. They are sensitive, loyal and easily trainable. They often live up to 18 years, which is significantly more than the average lifespan of a Bernese Mountain Dog. Bernedoodles also don't shed, making them ideal for those with allergies.
Bernedoodles are often considered hypoallergenic because they are crossed between a Poodle, which are known to be very low-shedding and produce low amounts of dander that is often responsible for triggering allergies; and a Bernese Mountain Dog, which is also known to be an allergy-friendly breed. While no breed is truly hypoallergenic, it is believed that Bernedoodles are generally less likely to respond to allergens than some other breeds of dogs.
Bernedoodles, like all dogs, should follow a diet based on their size, age, and activity level as instructed by their veterinarian. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles do not require a special diet, although their diet should meet the nutritional needs of their breed. High-quality food is the most important part of a Bernedoodle's diet. Be sure to pay close attention to their food labels to ensure the food contains all the essential nutrients and vitamins for your Bernedoodle's age and size.
Before you bring your new Bernedoodle home, there are a few things you should do to make sure that your home is prepared. First, get all of the necessary supplies your Bernedoodle will need food and water dishes, food, treats, a crate or kennel, a comfortable helmet, and a leash and collar. You should also make sure that any cords or other items that are dangerous for your dog are either hidden or relocated out of reach of your pup.
Bernedoodle puppies come in a variety of sizes, depending mostly on which parent breed the pup is descending from. While it can be difficult to predict how large your Bernedoodle puppy will be, generally the Standard size is usually between 21 to 25 inches, the Miniature size between 16 to 20 inches, the Toy size between 10 to 15 inches, and the Micro size between 6 to 9 inches. Additionally, these measurements are taken from the pup's shoulder, so they may appear a bit bigger or smaller at first glance.
Bernedoodles have a moderate level of exercise requirements. Taking them for regular walks and engaging in moderate to active playtime are great ways to increase their heart and muscle strength, as well as mental stimulation. They need around an hour of exercise every day in addition to mentally stimulating activities, such as games and obedience training. Long walks, jogs, agility, and flyball activities are great for them if you want to give them extra physical stimulation. This breed can also take part in light herding activities since they are descendants of the Bernese Mountain Dog.
Bernedoodles make excellent family members, especially when there are children around. They are highly loyal and loving, and often form very strong bonds with their human family members and other family pets. Bernedoodles generally have a very gentle, patient, and affectionate nature that makes them well suited for families with children. Not only will they provide lots of love and cuddles, but they also enjoy participating in activities with the family. Bernedoodles are intelligent, easy to train, and can learn basic commands and entertaining tricks quite quickly.
Training a Bernedoodle can be both simple and complex, depending on the individual. It is important to understand that each dog is unique, so the same training techniques won't necessarily work for all Bernedoodles. However, these dogs tend to be highly intelligent, making them typically eager and willing to learn. They also respond well to positive reinforcement and rewards of affection, which can make the training process more enjoyable. With patience, consistency and proper guidance, Bernedoodles will pick up new commands and behaviors quite easily.
