Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is an increasingly popular type of designer breed. It is breed from a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Generally, these hybrids offer the beautifully distinct look of the Bernese, with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the poodle. Bernedoodles come in a variety sizes, and can range from being miniature to extra large depending on what kind of Poodle was used in breeding. Generally, the standardized Bernedoodles range between 25 and 34 inches in height and 40 and 70 pounds in weight.
Bernedoodles are generally considered to be mostly non-shedding, thanks to their combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. While both breeds are known to shed some, cross-breeding them results in a hybrid with a much lower rate of shedding. This makes the Bernedoodle a great choice for people looking for a breed that is hypoallergenic and doesn't shed much. While they may still require occasional grooming, their coats are much easier to manage than some breeds.
Bernedoodles are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle, so it's important to take the dietary needs of both breeds into consideration when creating a meal plan. An ideal diet for a Bernedoodle should be balanced and contain proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Your Bernedoodle's diet should include plenty of meat, preferably a mix of high-quality beef, chicken, turkey and fish. Fats should be incorporated too and can be found in animal sources such as egg yolks and healthy vegetable sources like olive oil.
It's important to prepare properly so that you and your Bernedoodle have a great start to your relationship. Make sure to do your research and find out as much as you can about the breed; this will give you an understanding of their needs and behaviors. If possible, meet a Bernedoodle beforehand to get a feel for the temperament and how your own pup might act. You should also get all the necessary equipment such as a crate, collar, leash and ID tag before bringing your new pup home.
Bernedoodles come in 3 standard sizes: Standard, Mini, and Toy. Standard Bernedoodles typically weigh between 50-100 lbs and stand 21-28 inches in height at their shoulders, while Mini Bernedoodles will weigh between 25-49 lbs and stand 17-28 inches. Toy Bernedoodles weigh between 10-24 lbs and stand 12-17 inches. Beyond these three sizes, some breeders may provide "squish" Bernedoodles which weigh less than 10 lbs and stand under 12 inches (though these are not recognized sizes).
It really depends on the age and activity level of your Bernedoodle. But as a general guideline, walking your Bernedoodle for about 30-60 minutes per day is recommended. If your Bernedoodle is a puppy, you may want to keep the walks shorter and more frequent, as puppies may have shorter attention spans and can be less tolerant of long walks. An adult Bernedoodle should be able to handle longer and more vigorous walks, but keep an eye on them and make sure they aren't over-exerting themselves.
Bernedoodles definitely make wonderful family dogs! They have wonderful temperaments and are very friendly, loyal and intelligent, making them easy to train. Bernedoodles also have a lot of energy, so they enjoy playing and running around with their owners. They are also very devoted animals, making them highly attachable to their owners. As a result, they often do well with children, being patient and gentle with them. Their thick coat also makes them well-suited for cold climates, so they’re an ideal pet for any family.
Training a Bernedoodle is not a difficult task if it is done properly and consistently. Patience is something that is essential as a Bernedoodle needs to understand the commands clearly and swiftly in order to react accurately. Regular positive reinforcement can help to ensure that a Bernedoodle understands commands. It is important to establish ground rules and boundaries right away, this will help the Bernedoodle respond to the words used so that each command is easy to teach and easier to remember in the long run.
