A Bernedoodle is unique because it has a combination of traits from both parent breeds, typically the intelligence and low-shedding coat of a Poodle, and the great personality and strong build of a Bernese Mountain-Dog. They are up to date on vaccinations and health checks, and are most commonly used in activities like agility, guide services, protection, and, of course, as a loyal companion.
The Bernedoodle is known for its beautiful, shaggy coats. These coats typically require minimal grooming, as the Bernedoodle coat is hypoallergenic and non-shedding. Depending on the Bernedoodle's parent breeds, their coats can range in color and texture. Bernedoodles could have a coat that is more Poodle-like, appearing curly and soft, or more Bernese Mountain Dog-like, appearing wavy and rough.
Bernedoodles are unique designer dogs that benefit from a high-quality diet full of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Generally speaking, we recommend that Bernedoodles eat a balanced diet of regular, high-quality kibble supplemented with occasional nutrient-rich treats. Bernedoodles can be sensitive to certain foods, so it's important to find a kibble that meets their individual needs. On top of that, Bernedoodles need ample water throughout the day and at meal times to keep them hydrated.
Preparing your home for a new Bernedoodle is an important step towards helping your pup feel welcome and comfortable in their new environment. Start by creating a safe and secure space for your pup. Put away items of sentimental value and make sure your home is puppy-proofed by addressing any potential hazards. Create a special area with a place to sleep and a spot to rest and relax. Have plenty of toys and durable chew items to keep your pup entertained. Ensure you have the right balance of play time and nap time. Make sure your pup has access to fresh, clean water.
Bernedoodles come in three primary sizes: Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Standard Bernedoodles typically stand 22 to 29 inches tall and weigh up to 70 pounds. Miniature Bernedoodles stand 14 to 17 inches tall and weigh up to 25 pounds, while Toy Bernedoodles typically measure 10 to 12 inches tall and weigh 10-20 pounds. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles should be walked a minimum of 30 minutes per day, but ideally 1 hour per day. The perfect amount of time to walk your Bernedoodle will depend on their age, activity level and general health. For instance, for puppies and active adults, it's a good idea to walk them for at least an hour, as long as the weather is appropriate. When the weather is too hot or humid, longer walks are not recommended.
