Questions & Answers
A Bernedoodle is a designer breed of dog that is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. They are a very intelligent, friendly and loyal breed that are always eager to please their owners. Bernedoodles tend to be easy to train, and with the right care, can live up to 16 years. They come in various colors, such as apricot, black and white, and are usually non-shedding. A Bernedoodle is a great family pet, and is known to be affectionate and good with children.
Bernedoodles have beautiful and unique coats that vary in length and texture. They can have wavy to curly fur that can be short to med-length. Generally, Bernedoodles' coats are a combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog's longer, silkier fur and the Poodle's crimpy curls. The texture and thickness of their fur will depend on which Poodle parent your Bernedoodle had. The coat can range from black to brown, rust and white, with potential for merle coats.
Your Bernedoodle should be feed a balanced, nutritious diet to ensure that they stay healthy. A suitable diet for your Bernedoodle should consist of high-quality protein sources, complex carbohydrates, and beneficial fats. Depending on your Bernedoodle's age and activity level, the amount of food per day will vary. Be sure to read the labels on all pet foods for calorie content and nutrition. If your Bernedoodle is an adult, a healthy diet should include a combination of dry and wet dog food.
Before bringing home your new Bernedoodle, it's important to prepare your home for your furry friend. First, you'll want to puppy proof the area close off any gaps between walls and furniture, move cleaning materials and other dangerous items to a secure area, cover any cords, and make sure there are no sharp objects within your pet's reach. You'll also want to provide your pup with its own space, like a bed and crate, as well as puppy toys, food, and water dishes.
The size that your Bernedoodle puppy will reach when grown can depend on the size of the parent dog breeds used to create the Bernedoodle. If a mini Bernedoodle is created using a Miniature Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, the puppy could grow to be around 10-30 pounds when fully grown. If a standard Bernedoodle is created using a Standard Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, then the puppy could grow up to be around 50-90 pounds when grown up.
Bernedoodles are an active breed and as such need a lot of exercise. They enjoy playing outside and engaging in activities such as hiking, playing fetch, and agility courses. Bernedoodles need at least 30 to 45 minutes of vigorous exercise per day to stay in top shape. If their exercise needs aren't met, Bernedoodles may become disruptive or restless. They do best when their energy is well-channeled through activities or even puppy sports such as flyball or agility trials. Regular mental stimulation is also important for Bernedoodles because they are highly intelligent animals.
Bernedoodles are known for being gentle, loving, and loyal family dogs making them excellent companions for families with children! They are highly intelligent, so they take well to training. The Bernedoodle's passive nature, combined with their loving, playful demeanor make them ideal for households with children. In addition, their low-shedding coats make them perfect for families who have allergies to pet dander. When appropriately trained and socialized, Bernedoodles can be loving, loyal family pets that are wonderful companions for kids.
Training a Bernedoodle is not a difficult process and can easily be accomplished with patience and consistency. To start, ensure your pup is comfortable with basic commands such as sit, stay and come. Positive reinforcement, such as treats, can help facilitate these actions quickly while reinforcing good behavior. Creating a regular schedule will also allow your dog to become familiar with reinforcements and learn expectations. Spend at least fifteen minutes a day teaching new commands and reinforcing the known ones. Praise your dog when he successfully follows commands, and reward him with praise or treats.
