Bernedoodles are a popular cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, resulting in a breed with low shedding, hypoallergenic fur, an intelligent and friendly personality, and an active lifestyle. They come in both miniature and standard sizes, as well as various coat colors. Generally, Bernedoodles are social, loyal and affectionate; they are also known to be very intelligent and easy to train. Bernedoodles are great for people with allergies, as their hypoallergenic fur does not shed much.
Bernedoodles are often described as having a 'teddy bear' type coat due to their long, fluffy hair that is both soft and wavy. Though sometimes smooth and short, a Bernedoodle's coat can vary greatly in its length and thickness. Coat color depends on the type of poodle parent and can range from solid black to shaded tans and fawns, brindles, sabled or tricolored white, black, and brown.
Bernedoodles are an intelligent hybrid breed so their dietary needs will vary depending on their individual size and activity level. Generally, Bernedoodles should be fed high-quality, nutritionally balanced dog food, tailored to their age and lifestyle that should include a mixture of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. It is recommended to provide fresh, clean water at all times, preferably in a non-metal bowl that cannot be easily knocked over.
It is important to take the necessary steps to ensure your home is ready for your new Bernedoodle. Prior to the pup's arrival, you should puppy-proof your home by ensuring any potentially dangerous items like small objects, plants, and wires are out of reach. Exercise-wise, designating an area outdoors, such as a gated-in yard or a nearby dog park, for your furry friend's exercise and mental stimulation would be ideal.
Bernedoodles come in three sizes, with varying weights. The smallest are Mini Bernedoodles, which typically weigh between 16-25 lbs. The next size up is the Standard Bernedoodle which typically weighs between 45 and 85 lbs, and the largest is the Giant Bernedoodle which can be anywhere from 80 lbs up to even 130 lbs. In addition, there are various levels of "Furminations" for each size, offering varying levels of coat length, texture and color.
It is recommended that you walk your Bernedoodle for at least 30 minutes a day. However, depending on your Bernedoodle's age, health, and energy level, you may want to walk them for longer. If your Bernedoodle is a puppy, you'll want to start with shorter walks and increase the length as your pup grows stronger. Keeping your Bernedoodle's exercise routine consistent is important for their physical and mental well-being, so try to carve out a regular daily time slot to commit to the walks.
