Questions & Answers
Bernedoodles are a hybrid between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. They have a beautiful, low-shedding coat, and are often highly intelligent and friendly. Bernedoodles are known for being loyal, affectionate, and even-tempered. Generally, they thrive in families that have plenty of time to dedicate to them and provide lots of exercise and activity. If socialized early, Bernedoodles can get along well with other pets, including cats and other dogs.
Bernedoodles are often touted as a non-shedding or low-shedding breed, as their coats are a combination of the fur of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. While they are not completely non-shedding, they do shed much less than a regular Bernese Mountain Dog, as the Poodle coat on them helps to reduce the amount of loose fur. Bernedoodles do blow their coat seasonally, which means the coat can become more dense and the amount of shedding increases for a short time.
It is important to provide a balanced diet for your Bernedoodle. You should have a high-quality dry food made of lean protein and complex carbohydrates as the foundation of their diet, supplemented with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The fresh foods should be mashed or cut into small pieces, as Bernedoodles have a relatively small jaw and can choke on larger pieces. Additionally, you can feed your Bernedoodle cook-at-home meals such as boiled chicken and vegetables. You should also make sure to provide enough water to keep your Bernedoodle hydrated throughout the day.
Preparing your home for your new Bernedoodle can be a fun process. Start by clearing the clutter: Bernedoodles need plenty of space to roam and play, so remove any bulky furniture or toys that could be hazardous. Next, pet-proof your home by fortifying any exposed electrical cords and toxic materials. Consider investing in baby gates too, for keeping your pup out of potentially dangerous places. Additionally, visit a pet supply store and pick up a few basic items, such as a bed, crate, leash, collar and bowls.
Bernedoodles come in four main sizes, all based on the size of the Bernese Mountain Dog parent. The four Bernedoodle sizes are Standard, Miniature, Toy, and Micro. Standard Bernedoodles typically weigh between 50 and 90 pounds when fully grown, with Miniature Bernedoodles weighing between 25 and 50 pounds. Toy Bernedoodles weigh about 10 to 24 pounds, while Micro Bernedoodles are less than 10 pounds on average.
Bernedoodles are extremely active, intelligent dogs that need daily exercise. They require at least an hour of physical activity as well as mental stimulation every day, such as a game of fetch or a brisk walk or jog. Owners should also make sure to allow for plenty of playtime with other dogs and activities that challenge their brain, such as scent-training or agility courses. Furthermore, Bernedoodles typically need two short walks a day to maintain their overall health.
Bernedoodles are definitely wonderful companions for kids because they are incredibly loyal and affectionate breeds. They are known to be highly intelligent and full of personality, making them easily trainable and perfect for families with children. Not only are they gentle and sociable around kids, they also tend to show patience while playing with them. Additionally, they are patient and affectionate, making them great lap dogs that can relax and cuddle with the family. Overall, there is so much to love about Bernedoodles and the quality companionship they offer makes them an excellent addition to any family.
Training a Bernedoodle is not necessarily easy, but with time, patience and consistency, it can be accomplished. It is important to remember that the Bernedoodle is a relatively new designer breed that is a mix of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle, thus inheriting qualities and characteristics of both breeds. Some Bernedoodles can be more challenging to train than other dog breeds, depending on their level of intelligence, instinct and individual personality traits.
