A Bernedoodle is a type of designer hybrid breed created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Standard, Miniature, or Toy Poodle. These dogs are known for their intelligence, social nature, and loyalty. They tend to be very playful, loving, and gentle, making them a good choice for families with children. Bernedoodles typically weigh between 25 and 45 pounds, with the average height being 18-23 inches at the shoulder. They have a moderate level of energy, making them well-suited for a variety of situations.
The Bernedoodle coat varies depending on which parent breed the pup takes after, as Bernedoodles are a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. Bernedoodle coats tend to range from smooth and low-shedding, which is more typical of the Poodle parent, to a thick and fluffy coat, which can resemble that of a Bernese Mountain Dog parent. Bernedoodles' coats come in an array of colors ranging from black and white, to black, brown, and tan tri-color.
Bernedoodles are a crossbreed between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle, so their diet should be individually tailored to meet the nutritional needs of both of these breeds. They will do best with a diet rich in proteins, including lean meats and those high in Omega-3 fatty acids. They should also have a variety of different carbohydrates like whole grains, complex carbohydrates, and plenty of fruits and vegetables to provide them with all their nutritional needs. Feeding them a variety of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats every day will give them the energy they need to stay healthy and active.
To prepare your home for your new Bernedoodle, start by puppy-proofing it. Hide and secure all cords, wires, and cables that the pup may chew on. Make sure any cleaning chemicals are out of their reach, and install safety gates anywhere needed. Pick up any loose objects off of the floor that the pup may want to play with or chew. Make sure any breakable items or houseplants are moved out of the way as well.
Bernedoodles come in three size variations: Standard Bernedoodles can measure up to 24 inches tall and weigh up to approximately 85 pounds; Mini Bernedoodles can grow to be 18 to 22 inches tall and weigh up to approximately 50 pounds; and Micro Bernedoodles typically measure 10 to 18 inches tall and weigh up to approximately 25 pounds. All Bernedoodles should have a well-proportioned build and require proper nutrition and activity to prevent health issues caused by excess weight gain or inadequate energy expenditure.
Bernedoodles, like all dogs, need regular exercise every day. They have a moderate to high energy level and need a little bit more physical activity than a less active breed. Depending on how much exercise your individual dog needs, a good rule of thumb is one hour of activity each day. This can be divided up into two 30-minute walks, or simply an hour or more of playtime. Exercise helps to maintain your Bernedoodles health and a good mental balance, providing him or her with a happy and healthy life.
