Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a loyal and friendly breed of dogs. They have a long history of being sought after as companions by royalty. Not only are they great with children, but they also love to run and play games making them great family pets.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a beautiful and distinctive silky coat. It is generally long and straight, yet dense and feathery. The breed has four coat colors: Blenheim (chestnut and white markings), Ruby (solid red-brown color), Tri-color (black and tan, with white markings), and Black and Tan. All of the coats are long and quite thick. Grooming and brushing the coat is necessary to keep it looking show-worthy. The Cavaliers also have a moderate undercoat, which helps the breed remain comfortable during the year.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a breed of dog with curious and often playful personalities. They take well to human companionship and easily form bonds with their owners. They require a healthy and nutritious diet in order to maintain their daily energy and activity levels. Generally, it's suggested that Cavaliers should be fed premium foods for adult dogs that are high in protein and fat, along with essential vitamins and minerals. High-quality dry kibble is great for maintaining a healthy balance between proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and other essential minerals.
Preparation is key when bringing home a new Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, so taking the necessary steps ahead of time is important. Before the pup arrives, make sure to purchase supplies such as a cage, leash, training materials and food and water bowls. Research information on breed characteristics, behaviors, diet and care, as well as local laws related to pet ownership. Your home will also need to be puppy-proofed by removing any toxic substances, breakables and items that could be harmful to the pup.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in two varieties--the Toy variety and the Blenheim variety. Toy Cavaliers are considered to be the smallest of the two, with a weight typically ranging between 4 to 8 pounds. Blenheims are slightly larger, typically weighing between 8 and 14 pounds. As for other measurements, the Toy Cavaliers are typically between 10 to 12 inches in height, while the Blenheim is between 12 to 13 inches in height. Although the size of the breed may be similar in some ways, there are distinct differences between the two varieties.
Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels are an active breed of dog and require a good amount of exercise to stay healthy and happy. Depending on their age, size, and health condition, a minimum of two 20-minute walks a day for adult Cavaliers is recommended. Puppies should be walked for shorter periods of time, and senior Cavaliers should be given gentler exercise. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should not be over-exerted, and care should be taken to ensure the dog isn’t pushed too hard on hot days, as they can easily overheat.
Many people find that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are excellent pets for families with children. They can get along very well with kids of all ages, thanks to their loyal, gentle, friendly and loving personalities. These small dogs make fantastic companions, as they tend to be more affectionate and attentive than other breeds. It is important to ensure that any interaction between children and this breed is done in a safe, supervised environment.
Training Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be relatively easy depending on the time, energy and dedication you are willing to put into it. They are a playful breed known for their high energy and love of people, which can make them a joy to train. They respond best to positive reinforcement training, such as treats and praise, which helps to reward them for good behavior. Taking advantage of their loving nature and eagerness to please their owners can work wonders when it comes to training these delightful pooches.
