Questions & Answers
A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small spaniel breed developed during the 1600’s in England. This breed is a very outgoing and affectionate breed that has some of the best qualities of both toy spaniels and sporting spaniels. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels typically have a slightly longer muzzle than the average toy spaniel, a deep chest and sloping back, and they are usually 13-18 pounds in weight. They are a loyal and devoted companion, and they love spending time around people and other animals.
While Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for their long and soft hair, they are a breed of light to moderate shedders. While their coat may not shed as much as a heavier shedder, it does still shed and will require regular grooming to keep the coat healthy and beautiful. Additionally, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels may need to have the hair trimmed and will require regular brushing and baths in order to keep the fur looking neat and clean and prevent tangles from occurring.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should be fed a high-quality diet tailored to their age, size, and activity level. Dry kibble and wet food both provide adequate nutrition, but mixed diets may be best served in separate meals. No matter what, always opt for a diet rich in animal-based proteins and carbohydrates, with added vitamins and minerals for a balanced, healthy meal. Recommended daily allowances should be based on their age, bodyweight, and activity levels. Puppies should be fed three to four meals per day, while adult dogs typically need just two meals.
It's important to prepare yourself before you bring a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into your home. Make sure you have time to train and exercise your pup, as well as cuddle up and play. It's also important to build a working relationship with a veterinarian and familiarize yourself with all necessary shots and medications. Be sure to get your pup microchipped for safety, and consider pet health insurance for peace of mind. Make sure you have the proper supplies, such as food and water bowls, beds, chew toys, and a grooming brush.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in four sizes: Toy or Teacup size (under 12 pounds); Miniature (12 14 pounds); Small Standard (14 18 pounds); and Large Standard (greater than 18 pounds). The size of individual dogs may vary within the breed, but Toy or Teacup size dogs are typically 10 1/2 to 12 inches tall, Miniature puppies will grow to 12 13 inches, small Standard Cavalier puppies to 13 15 inches, and the larger Standard Cavaliers can reach 15 1/2 to 16 1/2 inches in height.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are relatively active dogs that enjoy playing, romping, and running around for exercise. They are very active indoors and still require a few walks outside for moderate exercise. This breed loves to spend time with their owners, so taking them outdoors to play fetch and explore is the best way to keep them entertained. While they are not necessarily a high-energy breed, they do need an outlet to exercise their bodies and minds. If given enough stimulation and daily exercise, these dogs can be quite active, which can make them a great companion for many people.
Yes, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are an excellent breed for families with kids. Not only do they have incredibly sweet and gentle temperaments, but they are also highly intelligent, making them easily trainable. They are also famously one of the most loyal and affectionate breeds of dogs out there. This makes them especially good with children; these pups love getting attention and providing cheerfulness and companionship. They don’t need a lot of space or exercise, but they do love to be outdoors with their family.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are undoubtedly smart dogs who've been bred for centuries to be companion animals. Not only do they possess a keen intelligence, but they also have a strong desire to please their owners. They are naturally inclined towards learning and can easily pick up commands and tricks. They have been known to have an understanding of human body language, facial expressions, and even tone of voice, which allows them to intuit what is being asked of them. These endearing qualities make them ideal pets and loyal companions.
