Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a striking breed of dog! Though they have alert faces, their nature is gentle and loving. They have a powerful sense of loyalty and are considered easy to train. Some fun facts about this breed include their back toes, they possess a missing toe up to their fifth toe. They also have a royal heritage, having been a favored breed of King Charles II of England. They come in four colors Blenheim (red and white); Ruby (solid red); Tricolor (black, tan, and white) and Black & Tan.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a beautiful, silky coat that tends to be longer than some other spaniel breeds. It has medium-length hair that has a gentle wave and comes in four different colors: Blenheim, Tri-color, Ruby, and Black and Tan. The Blenheim coat is a predominantly white fur with patches of chestnut. The Tri-color coat has tan, black, and white fur with chestnut markings. The Ruby has a full red coat, with only occasional white markings. The Black and Tan coat is a solid black and tan pattern.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels generally have average dietary needs; they thrive on high-quality, balanced diets. That being said, due to the breed’s tendency to develop conditions such as slipped stifle, arthritis, and hip dysplasia at a young age, it is best to feed these dogs a diet that is high in omega-3 fatty acids, comprised of whole grains and lean proteins, and supplemented with vitamins and minerals to promote optimum joint and health.
