Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are one of the most popular breeds of dogs and their good-natured and loving personality has made them a favorite pet for many families. They have a noble and gentle manner, are obedient and eager to please, and make great companions for both children and adults alike. Cavaliers have an average lifespan of 12-17 years and typically weigh between five and twenty pounds. They are considered an active, sporting breed, and require regular exercise to remain healthy. Grooming is also important for Cavaliers and they need regular brushing and occasional bathing to keep their coats in the best condition.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are not completely non-shedding, but they do have a low shedding coat. The breed has very little to no undercoat, which means that they produce very little dander, the leading culprit behind allergies. The Cavalier's long hair, while requiring regular brushing and grooming, hardly ever needs to be trimmed. For those who want some of the benefits of a small and low-shedding dog, but want a bit of added fluff, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a great compromise.
Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels are energetic, small-sized dogs that require a balanced diet composed of protein-rich, high-quality kibble, as well as healthy treats such as fruits and vegetables. They should be fed a measured amount of food twice a day; unfortunately, they are prone to overeating and can become obese when they don't get enough exercise. To avoid this, portion control and regular physical activity are key. Additional food like dog-safe human food, canned food, and treats should be given sparingly, preferably no more than two or three times a week.
