Questions & Answers
A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small, graceful, and active companion dog that originated in England. They are members of the toy group of breeds, meaning they are usually no more than 12-13 inches in height and 13-18 pounds in weight. The Cavalier King Charles is an active dog with an instinctual desire to please, as well as an outgoing and friendly temperament. They have long silky coats, creative expressions and a beautiful, noble gait. As a companion dog, they are both affectionate and loyal, devoted to their families and eager to please.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel coat is quite long, silky, and soft to the touch. It is usually a rich golden or ruby color and has small patches of white found mainly on the feet, chest, and muzzle. This breed of dog is known to have long, feathery fringes falling from the ears to the chest, a small amount of feathering along the hind legs and tail, and a small stop along the neck. Although the coat may require occasional brushing to keep it looking its best, it doesn’t need to be professionally groomed.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are very social and love to eat. To keep your pup healthy and happy, feed them quality dry food specifically formulated for their breed. Healthy snacks may be given in moderation as well. It's best to keep treats to less than 10 percent of their daily caloric intake. Make sure to always choose high-quality, natural ingredients that are low in fat and contain no artificial flavors, fillers, or preservatives. Feed your pup twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.
Becoming the best puppy parent while you wait for your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an exciting time! To start, research the breed and its particular needs, such as the amount of daily exercise, food and nutrition, and particular health considerations. Talk to a local veterinarian to get a better understanding of the breed and their specific needs. Consider setting up your home in advance by gathering necessary items such as bowls, bedding, a collar and leash, toys, and grooming supplies. When your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel arrives, establish a routine right away.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels typically weigh between 12-18 pounds and are typically 12-13 inches tall as an adult. However, since puppies are still growing and in the development stage, it is not possible to accurately predict what size it will reach as an adult. Growth rates vary from puppy to puppy, so even within the same breed, size will vary. A puppy's eventual size and even its shape is determined by its genetics and nutrition, with a well-balanced diet being important in ensuring the puppy grows to its full potential.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels need plenty of exercise for optimal health and well-being. Generally speaking, these dogs need 45-60 minutes of moderate exercise every day. It's best to try and divide this into two or three smaller fitness sessions, such as a morning walk, a game in the yard and a short jog in the evening. It's important to allow your Cavalier an appropriate amount of playtime, allowing them to expend excess energy while building strength and endurance.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known as excellent companions, and they make wonderful family dogs. They are loving and affectionate, so they get along well with children and other animals. They are also calm and gentle, so playtime and cuddle time are perfect for them. These dogs are very devoted to their owners, making them great at providing comfort in times of loneliness or sadness. They have an easy-going nature, making them adaptable to many different situations and environments. Plus, they are relatively low maintenance, making them a great addition to any household.
Training a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel requires patience and consistency, two key elements to successfully interact and bond with any animal. The best way to start training is to break commands into smaller, more manageable tasks and be sure to keep your training sessions short and enjoyable for both you and your pup. To housebreak your pup, create a routine with regular potty walk times, reward your pup for restroom success and keep a close eye to notify when needed.
