Questions & Answers
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a playful and friendly breed. They have luxurious coats that come in four colors: Blenheim, Ruby, Tricolor and Black & Tan. They have long silky ears and a large eyes giving them a gentle expression. They are highly affectionate and love spending time with their family, so much so that they are considered to be a true lapdog. This breed is generally healthy, however, some lines can be prone to inherited medical conditions such as Syringomyelia and Mitral Valve Disease.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a luxurious, silky coat. Its texture is smooth, and its length is moderate, without being too long or too short. Its coloring can range from white and chestnut to shades of black and tan, and it doesn't require any trimming. Typically, furry ears are more angular and can have feathering, which may require brushing. Although the Cavaliers coat does not require much grooming, regular brushing is recommended to keep them looking their best and protect their fur from matting.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are an active breed that enjoys moderate exercise and a high-quality diet. Opt for a dry kibble specifically designed for small-breed dogs that has appropriate levels of protein and fat. You can supplement their diet with specific treats and small amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables that are safe for dogs to eat. Avoid giving them scraps from the table, as table food is often high in fat and sodium and can lead to weight gain, stomach upset, and other health issues for your pet.
To become the best puppy parent while waiting for your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, there are several things you can do. First, research the breed extensively, learning all you can about their temperament, health needs, and even specific health issues related to the breed. That way, you can be more prepared to provide the care your puppy needs. Second, create a safe, comfortable living environment for your puppy. Make sure to puppy-proof the house and discuss boundaries with any other family members, so your pup is coming into a familiar, secure environment.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come in two size variations. The first size, called a toy-size, is a small dog typically weighing between 10 to 18 pounds and standing 12 to 13 inches tall at the shoulder. The other size, called a show-size, is larger, usually weighing between 18 to 25 pounds and standing between 13 to 15 inches tall. Both size variations are compact and playful, but the show-size has a slightly longer muzzle, heavier body, and thicker coat than the toy-size.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels need a moderate amount of exercise. Usually, this type of dog will do best with at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. This can consist of a good walk around the neighborhood, playing fetch, agility training, or even running around in the backyard. As is true for any dog, it is important for them to stay in shape and get their daily exercise, as this can help prevent long-term health issues. Keeping an appropriate exercise schedule is key to maintaining your pooch's health and preventing boredom.
Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels are often a great choice if you have kids in the house. They are a friendly, outgoing breed, with a cheerful disposition that makes them a wonderful family pet. They tend to be gentle, loving, and patient behaving well with children of all ages. The Cavaliers' small size is also advantageous, since they are much less likely to accidentally hurt your children while playing. On top of that, they tend to bark less than other breeds, which can be a great relief for parents.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are undoubtedly smart dogs. While they may not have the same reputation for intelligence as other breeds, their intelligence should not be underestimated. They are quick learners and eager to show off their talents. With training, they can easily pick up commands, tricks and show off their obedience. Furthermore, they have the remarkable ability to express themselves and their emotions through expression and body language, which allows them to communicate effectively with their owners. Their eagerness to please makes them a smart and devoted companion.
