Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a loving and intelligent hybrid created from crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos are small, typically weighing between 10-20 pounds, and make perfect family companions due to their pleasant temperament. Cavapoos have a moderate activity level and are known for being affectionate and loyal. They are an intelligent breed and are known to excel in obedience and agility training. They are also social and tend to get along well with people, other animals, and children.
The Cavapoo's coat is usually a soft and wavy coat that is either medium or long in length. It typically consists of a mix of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's silky and feathery coat and the Poodle's curly coat. The Cavapoo's coat can come in a variety of different colors, including white, black, apricot, golden, red or a combination of any of these colors. The coats' texture can range from smooth and straight to wavy and curly.
Cavapoo puppies can have hypoallergenic coats, although this is not always the case. The degree of hypoallergenic qualities of a Cavapoo largely depends on the genetic background, specifically which parent breeds the pup is descended from. For example, if a Cavapoo has a Poodle parent, the pup is more likely to have a hypoallergenic coat. However, even if a Cavapoo has a non-hypoallergenic parent, their coat may still have some hypoallergenic qualities.
Before you bring your Cavapoo home, it is important to plan ahead and be prepared for their arrival. To ensure you and your new pup have a smooth and successful transition, begin by researching the breed and learning about their behavior and needs. Talk to your veterinarian to make sure you are up to date on vaccinations and have the proper supplies to care for your Cavapoo such as food, a bed, a collar, toys, and a crate or kennel. Having these things ready before your pup comes home will help with the adjusting process.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is through positive reinforcement. Consistency is key; reward your puppy with treats and verbal praise when he or she displays the desired behavior, and be clear and consistent in any commands given. It is also a good idea to carry out training in a calm and quiet environment, as this will help keep your pet focused. Start by teaching your pup basic commands such as ‘Sit’ and ‘Stay’.
Cavapoos are an active and energetic breed because of their spaniel heritage. Therefore, they will need regular exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy and happy. Exercise should be tailored to your Cavapoo’s size, age and overall health. Generally speaking, Cavapoos should have a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity every day. This should include both a brisk walk or jog and several short play sessions throughout the day. Different types of activities such as fetch, obstacle courses, and agility training are great for providing both physical and mental stimulation.
Cavapoos are generally great with kids. They’re incredibly friendly and outgoing, and they have a lot of energy that is perfect for playing with children. Cavapoos love to cuddle, as well, so they would likely make great lap dogs if you have children that want to take evening naps with their pup. They also do well with people of all ages, from toddlers to seniors, so your Cavapoo will be a beloved family member for many years to come.
The primary difference between f1b, F2, and other generations of Cavapoos lies in the percentage of genetic material contributed by each parent. A f1b Cavapoo, for example, is a Cavapoo that has a poodle parent and a Cavachon parent — 50% of each — and is considered to be the most hypoallergenic of the Cavapoo generations. F2 Cavapoos have one parent that is a Cavapoo, and the other parent is either a poodle or a Cavachon.
