Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a hybrid dog breed created by combining Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle pedigree lines. They are wonderful companions that are known for their intelligence and loyalty to their owners. Cavapoos typically range between 12-25 pounds and stand up to 15 inches tall. They have a wide variety of coat colors and textures, with many of the more popular colors being black, white, apricot, and cream.
The Cavapoo's coat is thick and fluffy, typically described as almost teddy bear-like. Generally, their coat can range from soft and wavy to curlier types of fur. The length of the coat can be either long or shorter and it has been known to vary depending on the type of Poodle parent used. Generally Cavapoos have a single coat with no undercoat that may be wiry like a Poodle's, or silky like a Cavalier's. The coat also does not shed much, so it is a good choice for people who suffer from allergies.
Cavapoo puppies are generally considered to be hypoallergenic dogs. This means that they produce fewer allergens than most breeds of dogs. They are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle and as such, tend to have a lower level of dander (shedding) than other breeds of dogs. Whilst this may mean that Cavapoo puppies do not cause many allergic reactions, it does not mean that they are completely hypoallergenic, or suitable for everyone.
Before your Cavapoo arrives, you should make sure you have the necessary supplies and space ready. Start by creating a space for your pup where they can feel secure and get away from chaos. You should have a sturdy and comfortable place set up, such as a crate or den. Pick up a few basics, like a collar and leash, food and water bowls, bedding, and toys. Don’t forget to purchase treats and food that is appropriate for your Cavapoo’s age, weight and health needs.
To ensure that your Cavapoo puppy is well-behaved and learns healthy behaviors, it is important to provide consistent training. Start by setting realistic expectations, ensuring your puppy knows their boundaries, and teaching them basic commands such as ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘come’. Use positive reinforcement techniques, such as praising them, rewarding them with treats, and building a bond with your puppy through play. Additionally, give them ample physical and mental exercise by taking them on regular walks and engaging in mental stimulation activities such as games and puzzles.
Cavapoos need a moderate amount of exercise, with regular daily walks, playtime and some additional activities such as agility. The exact amount of exercise for your pup will depend on their size, age, health and activity levels. Generally, an adult Cavapoo should have around 30 minutes of exercise a day and puppies should have shorter, more frequent periods of exercise to maintain their energy levels and help with socialization. Keeping your Cavapoo active and engaged will help reduce destructive behaviours and any unwanted barking. This can include structured walks, interactive games and stimulating chew toys.
Yes, Cavapoos are known to be excellent with kids. They are loyal, energetic, and loveable dogs that can get along very well with children. Cavapoos have a friendly, accepting, and gentle nature making them an ideal companion for children. They are highly intelligent, making them easy to train. Consequently, they are great at responding to commands and can make a wonderful addition to any family with children.
The biggest difference between the F1b, F2, and other generations of Cavapoos lies in their lineage. F1b indicates that it is a backcross breed, meaning that the parents of the dog are a Cavapoo and a Poodle or another Cavapoo. F2, meanwhile, indicates it is the result of crossing two F1 Cavapoos. The generations are also differentiated by their physical characteristics, as backcross Cavapoos tend to have a slightly higher percentage of Poodle in their blood than F1 Cavapoos.
