Questions & Answers
Cavapoos are a designer/hybrid breed that combines the intelligence and playfulness of a Poodle with the affection and loyalty of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They typically weigh between 10 to 20 pounds, have a medium to low energy level, and are suitable for all kinds of homes, from apartments to large houses. They have silky and curly fur, making them great for people with allergies, as their fur is hypoallergenic. Their coats come in a variety of shades and colors, and some even can have a combination of both.
The Cavapoo breed typically has a coat that is soft and fluffy. It has a single layer of fur that is generally wavy and can range in length from short to medium. The coat can come in various shades of cream, apricot, white, black, grey, or even deep red. Additionally, the Cavapoo may have a combination coat that includes patches of two or more of the afore mentioned colours. The Cavapoo has a low maintenance coat that requires regular brushing to keep it looking its best.
While Cavapoo puppies are often considered to be hypoallergenic, their low-shedding coats can still trigger allergic reactions in susceptible individuals. The breeds in the Cavapoo mix can vary, so the actual shedding and hypoallergenic nature of the dog will depend on the genetics of the parents. Most Cavapoos have low dander, which helps them to be more hypoallergenic. As a mixed breed, there is no guarantee that they are truly hypoallergenic and owners should always keep this in mind.
Preparing for your Cavapoo’s arrival is an exciting time that requires discipline and consideration. First, make sure the space your Cavapoo will be staying in is secure, with dimensions suitable for their size. Setting up a comfortable bed, toy box, and food dishes will get them comfortable, and should be done in advance. Indoor potty training is also something you'll want to work on, as well as introducing them to a leash and any commands you’d like them to learn.
Training a Cavapoo puppy is a rewarding experience that requires patience, dedication and consistency. Establishing basic rules is key to providing a good foundation for your pup. Make sure to establish a regular routine so that your pup knows what to expect. Begin with crate training and housebreaking as soon as possible. This will help to create a safe and comfortable environment for your puppy. Introduce puppy-sized treats as a reward when they comply with commands like ‘sit’ and ‘stay’. Positive reinforcement is an excellent way to motivate your pup and encourage good behaviour.
Cavapoos need at least 30 minutes of exercise per day to stay healthy and happy. To maximize their exercise, you should divide this 30 minutes into 3 sections. For example, 10 minutes of a walk outside, 10 minutes of playing with an interactive toy, and 10 minutes of playing a game of fetch. During these activities, it’s important to make sure their environment is safe and that they’re supervised. In addition, Cavapoos should also engage in mental stimulation in the form of puzzles to keep their brains active.
Cavapoos are generally considered to be good companions for children, as they are often very affectionate and loyal. Cavapoos can be trained to obey basic commands and tend to be more docile and tolerant towards children than some other breeds of dogs. Cavapoos also generally enjoy playing games and bonding with people, making them a great companion for children. Cavapoos also have a reputation for being less aggressive and less likely to bark than other small dogs, which can be a bonus when young children are around.
The main difference between F1b, F2, etc. when it comes to Cavapoos is the amount of inbreeding involved. F1b Cavapoos are made from a first generation Cavapoo crossed with a purebred Poodle, with the resulting puppies being 75% Poodle and 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. F2 Cavapoos are produced by breeding a Cavapoo with another Cavapoo. The resulting offspring will be more genetically diverse and less inbred than the F1b Cavapoos.
