A Cavapoo is a hybrid breed of dog, created by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their excellent temperament and good looks. These friendly and gentle little dogs make excellent companions for both adults and children. They are highly trainable and intelligent, making them easy to train and quick to learn new commands. As well as being good family pets, Cavapoos can also be excellent therapy and service dogs too.
The Cavapoo's coat is a unique combination of its parents' coats - a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. On average, the fur is usually thick, soft and curly or slightly wavy, and usually very low-shedding and hypoallergenic. The Cavapoo coat can take on a variety of colors and patterns, ranging from solid colors like white, cream, tan, red, apricot and black, to pattern combinations such as chocolate, Merle, sable, tricolor and tan points.
While Cavapoo puppies are not a completely hypoallergenic breed, they are considered to have a low occurrence of allergenic fur or saliva. The Poodle parent of Cavapoos is one of the most popular breeds chosen for people with mild allergies or asthma, and the combination with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel also tends to provide a low allergen level. As with any other pet, the individual Cavapoo puppy may still cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
Prior to your Cavapoo’s arrival, there are several steps you should take to ensure you are adequately prepared. First and foremost, make sure you have access to all necessary supplies your dog will require such as food and treats, toys, a collar and leash, and a bed. This is especially important if you plan to take your pup to the park or any other public places where it is required to be on a leash. Also, consider enrolling in obedience classes with a qualified trainer, as this will benefit you and your pup in the long run.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to start early! Establish a consistent routine for feeding, resting, and playing with your pup. Stimulate their minds with obedience and other training classes such as agility, trick and scent work. Be sure to keep training sessions short and positive, and reward your pup with treats and verbal praise for good behavior. Spend quality time with your pup and teach them as you go.
Cavapoos need a moderate amount of exercise and activity to stay healthy and fit. They are an active, energetic breed and should be taken on at least one walk a day and have regular opportunities to play or run around. They do well in both an apartment or house, they don’t have the same exercise requirements as a Labrador Retriever, who needs much more intense exercise. Cavapoos benefit from 45 minutes to an hour of exercise daily, but this can be broken up into two or three short walks as well.
Cavapoos are generally a great companion for children. They have a wonderful and warm personality, combined with their small size and affectionate nature make Cavapoos ideal for kids. They are known to have an exceptional level of intelligence and will even try to pick up commands and please their owners. Cavapoos are easy to train and have an eagerness to please their people, making them not only great with kids, but also easy to manage regardless of the family’s skill level. They’re patient and can handle a lot of activity from young children.
The main difference between an f1b Cavapoo and other generations (F2, F3, F4, etc.) is the purity of the breed. An f1b Cavapoo is a cross between a purebred Poodle and a first-generation (f1) Cavapoo. This means that the Cavapoo is three-quarters Poodle and one-quarter Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. F2, F3, and F4 Cavapoos are defined by the percentage of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in the cross.
