Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a hybrid dog breed created by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. The result is a small, friendly, and smart companion dog who enjoys spending time with their families. Cavapoos come in a wide variety of coat colors, including black and white, chestnut, black and tan, and tricolor. Generally, Cavapoos inherit the same intelligence levels of their Poodle ancestry combined with an affectionate and loving nature from their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel lineage.
The Cavapoo is known for its beautiful coat that has a variety of textures and colors. Its coat can range from thick and curly to silky straight and can be almost any color or combination of colors. Its most common colors are chocolate, apricot, red, and cream. Its coat tends to be wavy or curly, and often contains furnishings. These furnishings are the longer hairs around the face and chest that give the Cavapoo its cute, teddy bear-like appearance. With proper grooming, the Cavapoo's coat glitters with health and beauty.
Generally speaking, Cavapoo puppies are considered to be hypoallergenic due to their low-shedding coats. This makes them a great choice for people who suffer from allergies, as they are less likely to trigger reactions. The combination of the Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeds makes Cavapoo puppies a designer dog that have a particularly gentle nature. The mix-breed also produces a coat that rarely sheds, as opposed to many other breeds of dogs.
Before bringing your new Cavapoo home, it is important to make sure you have everything in place to ensure a smooth transition. Start by preparing the home — create a designated space in the house, such as a quiet bedroom or playroom. You'll also need to think about supplies. Make sure you have the necessary items, such as a crate, collar, toys, food, vet and grooming supplies. Spend time getting to know your Cavapoo's breed — learn about their needs, care, and what behaviors to expect.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to start early and be consistent in the training that you give them. Set a routine and stick to it that specifies when they will eat, when they can go outside, and when they get their playtime or training time. Positive reinforcement is key and rewards such as food, praise, or toys can help motivate the puppy to want to do what you’ve asked them to do. Cavapoo puppies learn quickly so start with basic commands such as sit, stay, and come, and use them in different environments.
Cavapoos need around 30-60 minutes of exercise per day in order to remain healthy and fit. Depending on the age and size of your individual Cavapoo, their daily exercise requirements may vary. Typically, young puppies need more daily exercise than older dogs, while small and miniature Cavapoos may need less exercise than their larger counterparts. It's important to note that Cavapoos can become easily overstimulated, so it's important to keep exercise sessions short and sweet.
Generally speaking, Cavapoos are excellent dogs to have around kids. They are a small-medium size, so their energy and playfulness are appropriate for children, without them being overly bulky or excitable. They tend to be very friendly, gentle, and willing to please, making them a good choice when searching for a family pet. Cavapoos also have a relatively low-maintenance coat that is hypoallergenic, making them an ideal choice for those with allergies to traditional pet fur.
The main difference between F1b, F2 and other labels given to Cavapoos is the percentage of Poodle genetics in the mix. F1b Cavapoos are a cross between a Cavachon parent and a Poodle parent, with 75% Poodle and 25% Bichon Frise. F2 Cavapoos are the result of crossing two F1b Cavapoos, meaning that the percentage of Poodle genetics is now even higher at 87.5%.
