A Cavapoo is a pup created by consciously breeding a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos are generally small in size and usually range from between 10-15 inches in height, weighing between 7-15 pounds. They are known for being friendly, affectionate, intelligent and easy to train, making them great choices for families. Cavapoos have a thick, curly coat that comes in a variety of colors, ranging from black, white, red, blonde and brown, and they require weekly grooming to keep their coat looking its best.
The Cavapoo is well known for its soft and cuddly coat. Depending on the breeding, the texture and color of the coat can range from thick, wooly curls to a light and fluffy texture. The coat can be solid colors (such as red, black, and white) or it can be merled (with flecks of colors). Typically, the Cavapoo has a thick, but short coat of fur on the body while the fur on the muzzle and legs are usually much shorter in length.
Cavapoo puppies are considered to be hypoallergenic, as they are a mix of two types of hypoallergenic breeds. Cavapoos are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, making them a hybrid breed. The genetics of a Cavapoo puppy tend to lean more towards the Poodle side, making them low-shedding and suitable for those with allergies. Cavapoos have an undercoat that rarely sheds, and the sparse shedding from the outercoat is usually not enough to cause a reaction.
Preparing for your Cavapoo's arrival is an exciting time and there are a few steps you should take to make sure they feel at home when they arrive. First, make sure you have everything they need to have a comfortable first few days in their new home. This should include food and water bowls, some food, a crate or bed, toys, and a collar and leash. Make sure you also set aside some time for bonding with your Cavapoo between now and their arrival.
Training a Cavapoo puppy requires patience, consistency, and most of all, lots of love. Begin training as soon as possible, starting with basic commands like sit, stay, and come. Try to make the commands short, simple and easy to remember. Consistently use treats, praise and positive reinforcement as rewards for good behaviour. Avoid punishing your Cavapoo as this can lead to aggressive behaviour or confusion. Your pup should also be potty-trained as soon as possible, preferably as soon as they come home with you.
Cavapoos are a very energetic, friendly breed of dog that require plenty of daily exercise for a happy and healthy lifestyle. This breed does best with one to two brisk walks a day, at least a total of 60 minutes of exercise. Additional playtime can include fetch, hide and seek, agility activities and swim sessions. Mental exercises like puzzle toys, scavenger hunts and trick training can also provide physical and mental stimulation. It is important to remember that exercise frequency and intensity should be modified based on age, health and breed size.
Cavapoos are generally very friendly with kids and make great family pets. They have a sweet and gentle nature and usually get along very well with children of all ages. F1b Cavapoos are a hybrid of a F1 Cavapoo (50% Cocker Spaniel, 50% Poodle) crossed with a Poodle (F1B). This gives the F1b a 75% Poodle / 25% Cocker Spaniel gene pool. This can mean a slightly different appearance than F1 Cavapoos, with more of the Poodle gene being expressed more strongly. F2 Cavapoos are the progeny of two F1 Cavapoos being bred.
