Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a hybrid breed derived from crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos are known for their loving and friendly nature, being easy to socialize, and can make wonderful family pets. They generally have a soft, wavy coat that is low maintenance and hypoallergenic, and come in colors such as white, apricot, red and cream. Cavapoos tend to be small in size, with a typical height of 10-15 inches and typically weighing between 10-25 pounds.
The Cavapoo is known for its soft, beautiful coat. Their coats come in a variety of colors such as red, cream, black, apricot, white, chocolate, lemon, and sable. It is a single coat breed, so they don't have an undercoat, making them low-shedding. Some Cavapoos have straight coats, while others have curly coats that are similar to a poodle's. The texture of their coats range from silky and soft to thick and fluffy.
While Cavapoo puppies are sometimes referred to as “hypoallergenic” because they tend to produce less dander and have a low-shedding coat, it is important to remember that no breed of dog is 100% hypoallergenic. All dogs, including Cavapoos, produce some level of pet dander, which is a common allergen. Therefore, even the “low-shedding” or “hypoallergenic” label is not a guarantee that an individual person will not have a reaction to the pet.
Preparing for the arrival of your Cavapoo pup is an exciting time. To ensure the transition goes smoothly, it's important to properly prepare for your pet's arrival. Start by stocking up on the necessary pet supplies such as a dog bed, toys, food and water bowls, a collar, a leash, and grooming items like a brush, shampoo, and nail clippers. Additionally, you should create a safe space for your Cavapoo to rest, such as an area with a puppy gate, to keep them out of trouble.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to start early and be consistent. While Cavapoos can be a little more challenging to train than some other breeds, they are highly intelligent and capable of learning quickly when it comes to basic obedience and social behavior. Begin by establishing house rules, such as where the puppy is allowed to go and which behaviors are acceptable and which are not. Utilizing rewards and positive reinforcement is key when it comes to training a Cavapoo puppy, such as treats when the pup correctly follows a command or verbal praise when it behaves correctly.
Cavapoos are a very active breed and need a great deal of exercise to stay healthy and happy. A good rule of thumb is to aim for at least 1 hour of exercise per day, including both physical and mental activities. To ensure your Cavapoo gets enough exercise, it’s important to keep an active routine consisting of both long and short walks and other stimulating activities like fetch, swimming, agility training, or doggy play dates.
Absolutely! Cavapoos are typically known to be incredibly friendly and loving companions, so they make the perfect addition to households with children. They are typically energetic and social dogs, full of spunk and always up for plenty of playing. Cavapoos have an uncanny ability to sense and empathize with the feelings of their humans, particularly children. This makes them especially suitable for children who may need a companion that is emotionally supportive and understanding. Cavapoos also have an affectionate nature, so they make great cuddle buddies as well.
The main difference between different generations of Cavapoos (also known as Cavoodle) lies in their pedigree. F1 Cavapoos are the most common, and are the first generation of dogs bred from a purebred Poodle and a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. F1b Cavapoos are a crossbreed combination of an F1 generation Cavapoo and a purebred Poodle. This results in the puppies having a higher proportion of Poodle characteristics and a reduced shedding level.
