Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a hybrid dog, created by crossbreeding a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They typically weigh less than 20 pounds and come in many colors, such as red, fawn, apricot, black, cream, and more. Cavapoos are intelligent, friendly, and loyal companions that make wonderful family pets. They also get along well with other dogs, cats, and children. Cavapoos usually shed very little, making them a good choice for those with allergies.
The Cavapoo's coat is typically thick, soft and very fluffy! The variety of coat types can range from wavy and curly to wiry and straight. Cavapoos can come in many different colors, such as apricot, cream, tan, white, silver, black and chocolate. Most Cavapoos have a double coat of fur, with a soft and glossy outer coat and a soft, silky undercoat. The puppy's fur should be brushed regularly, and the adult Cavapoo should be groomed every few months to prevent the fur from becoming tangled.
Cavapoo puppies are often considered to be hypoallergenic due to their low-shedding coats, which mean they don't release dander into the air. This makes them a great choice for those with allergies or other sensitivities. However, it is important to remember that there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic breed and any dog can trigger an allergic reaction for some people. All breeds of dogs can produce allergens and Cavapoo puppies may still trigger allergies in some people.
Preparing your home for your new Cavapoo pup can be an exciting, yet daunting task. First, create a comfortable space for your pup to settle in. This could be in a corner of your living room, or in your bedroom if you’d like. Make sure your pup will have access to blankets, toys and food to make sure it has all the necessary supplies needed! If your Cavapoo isn’t potty trained, it’s important that you research the best methods for doing so.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to adopt a positive training approach. This means rewarding your pup when they do something right, rather than punishing them when they do something wrong. Start with basic commands like 'sit', 'stay’ and 'come’, along with any house training or potty training they may need. Utilize treats or praise as rewards to make them feel good about themselves and maximize their likelihood of complying. Additionally, provide them with plenty of mental stimulation in the form of puzzles and games that challenge their minds.
Cavapoos are energetic and playful dogs that thrive when they get plenty of daily exercise. An active breed, they should have at least an hour or two of physical exertion every day — whether it's a brisk walk, fetching a ball or playing tug-of-war with a rope toy. Cavapoos have good endurance and usually respond positively to high-energy activities such as swimming, agility drills and playing fetch. They also enjoy a good game of hide and seek. For additional stimulation, give your Cavapoo a puzzle toy or trilingual games.
Absolutely! Cavapoos are great family dogs and can thrive in a home with children of all ages. They are known to be gentle, loving, and playful, which makes them a perfect companion for kids. Cavapoos tend to be extremely loving and affectionate to their families, and are often incredibly patient and accepting of little hands pulling and tugging at them. Cavapoos are also generally very eager to please, making them easy to train and eager to learn from the children in the family.
The main difference between the F1, F1b, F2 and other generations of Cavapoos is largely about the degree of genetic purity. F1 is the first generation result of a purebred Poodle crossed with a purebred (or “registered”) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, resulting in a hybrid that is 50% Poodle and 50% Cavalier. F1b is the result of an F1 Cavapoo being crossed back with a Poodle.
