A Cavapoo is a designer hybrid dog breed that combines the characteristics of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. As a result, Cavapoos are typically small, loyal and intelligent dogs. They are known for being great family pets and they are friendly, gentle, and eager to please. Cavapoos do not require a lot of physical activity, making them an ideal fit for families with small children. They also do well with other pets and are known to be great with strangers.
The Cavapoo's coat is usually soft, wavy, and silky. Depending on its parent breeds, it can range in size from 2–4 cm long. Its coloring can range from white to apricot, to a light blond or ivory, to a light brown, to a chocolate brown, to a black shade of chocolate. The Cavapoo's coat doesn't shed too much, and generally only require weekly brushing and occasional trimming. It is a low-maintenance breed, which makes it ideal for busy owners.
Cavapoo puppies have the potential to be hypoallergenic, depending on their parent breeds. While the American Kennel Club has not yet accepted Cavapoo puppies as a breed, they are a crossbreed of both the Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The Poodle is one of the least allergenic breeds, and the Cavalier King Charles has a low to moderate level of shedding, making Cavapoo puppies the perfect choice for those wanting a hypoallergenic pup.
Preparing for your Cavapoo’s arrival is an exciting time! Before they arrive, there are a few things you should do to get ready. First, make sure your home is puppy-proofed – remove anything that could be a choking hazard or that your puppy might chew on, and make sure all electrical cords and wires connected to appliances and electronics are tucked away. The main difference between the different generations of Cavapoo (f1b, F2, etc.) is the proportion of their parent breeds. An F1 Cavapoo is a first generation crossbreed, with the puppies being a 50/50 mix of Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. An F1b Cavapoo is a 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Cavalier, which results in a higher proportion of Poodle in the pup’s genetic makeup.
