Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a fun-loving and cheerful breed that loves people, making them great family companions. Cavapoo's combine traits from both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle, including intelligence and an easy-going attitude. They have a soft, wavy coat that requires regular brushing and a friendly, gentle demeanor that makes them easy to train. Their size makes them great for apartments and smaller homes, while their playful nature makes them perfect for active individuals.
The Cavapoo's coat is typically soft and varies in color. It is usually a combination of both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle parent breeds, resulting in a somewhat wavy, sometimes curly coat type. The coat might be wavy and long like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, or it might be slightly more curly and dense like the Poodle. Colors range from white, apricot, black, tan and sometimes even a mix of two or three colors.
While the Cavapoo breed was intentionally bred to be hypoallergenic due to their hybridization between purebred Poodles and Cavaliers, it is impossible to guarantee that any one particular puppy will be agnonistic to any person's allergies. Hypoallergenic does not mean that a puppy won't cause any allergies, but rather defines a level of lesser severity in comparison to other breeds of dog. Therefore, it is important to do research into the parent breeds of the Cavapoo and recognize that all puppies have the potential to produce a mild to severe allergic response.
Before your Cavapoo arrives, there are a few steps you should take to make sure you are adequately prepared. First, create a safe space – purchase a bed, toys, and anything else they might need to be comfortable and entertained. Research any potential health concerns your Cavapoo may encounter, so you know what to watch out for and ensure that you are familiar with all necessary vaccinations and treatments. Additionally, you should determine what food and treats your Cavapoo will need and stock up in advance.
Training your Cavapoo puppy is an important part of establishing a strong bond and teaching them how to behave correctly in our world. To get the best results, a consistent and reward-based approach is the way to go. Begin by teaching your pup basic commands like “sit” and “down”. Interact with them often, rewarding good behavior and using lots of positive reinforcement. This will give them clear feedback on what they’re doing right and help build their confidence. To make the training process even more positive, use treats and plenty of praise.
Cavapoos are generally quite active and need moderate daily exercise to stay fit and healthy. A walk of 30-45 minutes a day is ideal for most Cavapoos, with a few shorter walks during the week to break up the routine. Activities like chasing a ball or frisbee, playing in the park, or even a quick game of fetch can provide an entertaining way for your Cavapoo to get their daily exercise. It is important to pay attention to your Cavapoo's energy level and adapt the activities or frequency of walks accordingly.
Generally speaking, Cavapoos are known to be very good with kids. They are loyal and affectionate, and they bond closely with families. Cavapoos have a naturally gentle disposition, which makes them easy to get along with, even for children. They are patient and understand the need for children to be active, so they don't mind playing tug-of-war and other active games. Cavapoos are also considered to be non-shedding, which is ideal for children who the family doesn't want their home filled with pet hair.
When it comes to Cavapoos, there are four types of generations (or “gens”) that are commonly bred: F1, F1b, F2, and F3. F1 dogs are first generation Cavapoos and are a direct mix of a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, resulting in a hybrid dog. F1b Cavapoos are a backcross of an F1 Cavapoo to a Poodle, resulting in a higher percentage of Poodle genetics.
