Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a delightful, loving and friendly dog that is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos bring the best qualities of both breeds, resulting in an incredibly intelligent and fun-loving pup. These pups tend to be small in size, usually anywhere between 10-20 pounds, but nonetheless have a big personality. They are outgoing and social, and love cuddling up with their family for a snuggle session.
The Cavapoo's coat is typically a blend of the two breeds it is a blend of: the Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. As such, the Cavapoo will usually have a medium length and wavy coat that is generally low-shedding. Depending on the amount of Poodle in the mix, Cavapoos can have anything from a loose curl to a looser, straight coat. Generally, they have a silky soft feel and can be found in a variety of colors such as white, cream, apricot, gold, and black.
Cavapoo puppies are a crossbreed between a Poodle or a Toy Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. While they are considered to be a hypoallergenic breed, no breed of dog can be guaranteed to be completely non-allergenic. All dogs produce the protein (canis dander) identifiable with allergies and Cavapoos are no exception. However, because the parent breeds from which the Cavapoo is created have low shedding coats and produce comparatively less dander, they are preferable to other breeds in terms of allergies.
The best way to prepare for the arrival of your Cavapoo is to make sure your home is ready for its new four-legged friend. Start your preparations by puppy-proofing your home, removing any potential hazards and limiting access to anything that could be dangerous for your pup. Next, make sure you have all the necessary supplies such as food, bowls, crates, toys, and a comfortable bed. Once these items are in place, you can begin to gradually introduce your Cavapoo to its new home and routine.
Training a Cavapoo puppy should follow the same basic principles as any puppy—positive reinforcement, consistency, and patience. Starting with socialization as soon as possible is key to preventing fearful or aggressive behaviour. Make sure they are exposed to new experiences, people, and sounds. Use toys, treats, and verbal praise every time they do something right, such as coming when called, learning basic commands, and playing fetch. Set boundaries and routines like potty training, walks, and meal times to keep an orderly environment.
Cavapoos are moderately active and need regular exercise to stay healthy. An ideal daily routine should include two to three walks and a few play sessions lasting 15-30 minutes each. Outdoor activities such as hide-and-seek, chasing a ball, or retrieving a toy provide physical and mental stimulation for Cavapoos. In addition to regular exercise, it's important to provide plenty of toys to keep them occupied when they're left alone. Cavapoos should also be taken to the dog park for some off-leash time and the chance to socialize with other pups.
Yes, Cavapoos tend to be very good with kids. They can be loving and loyal companions, and they often form strong bonds with them early on. In addition, Cavapoos have the added benefit of lower energy than many other breeds, which makes them easier to live with in a more relaxed home environment. They are also extremely intelligent and highly trainable, and this can help them to understand and obey commands easily, making them great playmates for young kids.
The main difference between f1b, F2 and other Cavapoos is the amount of Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that are in their breeding. F1b Cavapoos are most likely 75% Poodle and 25% Cavalier, F2 Cavapoos are 50% Poodle and 50% Cavalier, and subsequent generations will be increasingly made up of 25% Poodle and 75% Cavalier.
