Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a designer breed that combines the best of both worlds - the intelligence and trainability of the Poodle with the gentle and loving nature of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos are small-to-medium sized dogs, usually weighing 25-45 pounds, and their coats come in a variety of colors. They are highly intelligent, easily trainable, and extremely loyal to their owners, making them a great choice for families. Furthermore, their gentle, loving nature makes them an ideal companion for children and elderly family members alike.
The Cavapoo is known for its wonderfully soft and fluffy coat! Its fur is generally thick and can be curly or wavy, depending on the genetics of the parents. The Cavapoo's coat ranges in an array of colors such as cream, apricot, caramel, red and a mix of the above. Cavapoos require regular grooming and brushing to ensure their coat stays healthy and shiny. Their coat also sheds minimally, making it well-suited for individuals who suffer from allergies. Cavapoos are a great choice for those who desire a low-maintenance pup.
It depends. Cavapoo puppies are a breed of dog that is a mix of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Poodles, so they can potentially come with hypoallergenic traits inherited from either parent. Due to being a mixed breed, however, it is not completely known if Cavapoo puppies have the same hypoallergenic properties that a purebred dog may have. Ultimately, it is best to consult with a qualified veterinarian and/or do an allergy test if you are considering bringing a Cavapoo puppy into your household.
Preparing for the arrival of your Cavapoo can be an exciting yet overwhelming task! To ensure that the transition goes as smoothly as possible, there are a few things you should do in advance. First, create a comfortable space for your pup—set up their crate, and choose a spot where they can sleep, eat, and play. Make sure to have all the necessary supplies, including food, treats, toys, bedding, and grooming tools.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to start off with positive reinforcement training. As these intelligent and happy puppies love to please their owners, positive reinforcement training will help them learn quickly and turn all the behaviors you want into habits. Start by rewarding them with treats and praise when they engage in the desired activity. Keep training sessions short and fun to prevent frustration and boredom. Also, Cavapoos are known to be sensitive to loud noises, so use a calm, gentle tone when communicating with your puppy, and don’t ever force them to do anything.
Cavapoos require moderate exercise, with one to two walks a day lasting 15 to 30 minutes each being a good guideline for overall health. An active play session in a securely-fenced area is also beneficial to keep your dog healthy and mentally stimulated. Cavapoos are active and require mental and physical stimulation, so activities such as agility, flyball, and lure coursing can be beneficial. Additionally, small activities such as throwing a ball or going to the local dog park can help your Cavapoo stay healthy.
Cavapoos are considered to be an ideal family pet, particularly when it comes to their compatibility with children. Cavapoos, like their parent breeds, Poodles and Cavaliers, are known to be gentle, loving, and affectionate dogs with excellent social skills. Because of their temperament, they make great playmates and are excellent with toddler aged children. Cavapoos are also smaller sized dogs, making them ideal for families with kids, as they are not easy to accidentally hurt.
F1b, F2, etc. refer to generation designations when it comes to Cavapoos. The "F" stands for "filial generation," which is the classification of how many generations removed a pup is from its original Poodle/Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parentage. Generally, an F1 is the first generation removed, while an F2 is the second, and so on and so forth.
