Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a very special breed of dog - a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They are loyal, loving and intelligent, making them the perfect companion for families. Cavapoos are small in size, coming in a variety of colors and markings, but they always have the signature soft, curly coat of the Poodle parent. This breed's gentle nature and unconditional love make them excellent family pets, plus they are low-shedding and don't require much exercise or grooming.
The Cavapoo's coat is a soft, wooly, and low-maintenance combination of a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The fur is usually a combination of both breeds’ colors, often containing shades of white, black, red, chocolate, and even apricot. The coat is usually silky or wavy, and can either be long, medium, or short depending on the length of the parents’ coats. The Cavapoo’s fur is low-shedding, which makes them ideal for people with allergies.
Yes, Cavapoo puppies can be considered hypoallergenic. This is because they are a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, two breeds that are known for having low shedding coats. The combination of these two breeds results in a highly desirable hybrid that many describe as "hypoallergenic", meaning they are unlikely to trigger allergic reactions. Cavapoos tend to have low-shedding coats that are soft and silky in texture, they also require minimal maintenance to stay looking healthy and well-groomed.
As you prepare for your Cavapoo's arrival, there are several important things to consider. First, make sure you’ve received all of the necessary vaccinations for your Cavapoo, as well as all of the necessary paperwork from your breeder or veterinary clinic. You may also need to source certain items such as food, water and food bowls, a bed or crate, brushes, shampoo, and other grooming tools. When the time comes, set up the space where your dog will be living in your home.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to start young and be consistent. Cavapoos are highly intelligent, so training can be as simple as having your puppy repeat commands. Start by teaching a few simple commands such as “sit”, “stay”, and “come”. Praise your puppy when they do the right thing and treat them with a treat as reinforcement. Consistency is key, so be sure to give your puppy the same commands in the same way each time.
Cavapoos are considered to be relatively active dogs, although their amount of exercise and activity will ultimately depend on the individual dog. Generally speaking, Cavapoos need at least an hour of exercise each day, ideally split into shorter periods throughout the day to keep them mentally and physically healthy. More active breeds like Cavapoos may need additional exercise, with activities like running, fetch, agility and swimming all helping to keep them fit and entertained, while less active dogs can get by with shorter, less strenuous activities.
Cavapoos are generally good with kids and are known to be very affectionate, gentle, and loving toward their families. Cavapoos tend to form a meaningful bond with children, often enjoying playing and snuggling. They can also be very protective of their young family members and make great playmates. Cavapoos are also known for their intelligence, making them easy to train, and their adaptability, allowing them to be comfortable in most environments.
The difference between the F1b, F2, etc when it comes to Cavapoos is essentially the amount of “poo” in their genepool. An F1 Cavapoo is a first generation of a Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cross. This generation has the most poodle percentage in their genepool. An F1b Cavapoo is a breeding between an F1 Cavapoo and a Poodle. This produces a pup with a higher percentage of poodle in its make up.
