Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a hybrid breed of dog created by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They usually range in size from small to medium and weigh between 10 and 20 pounds, making them perfect for owners with limited space. Cavapoos are a highly popular breed due to their loving, loyal and intelligent nature. They are known for being gentle and eager to please, making them a great addition to any family. Cavapoos have minimal shedding and their mild, easy to manage temperament makes them simple to train. They can be quite active and require regular exercise.
The Cavapoo has a highly desirable low-shedding coat which is often curly or wavy and soft to the touch. The outer coat is often medium to long in length, but if the parent breeds are Toy Poodles and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, then the coat is naturally a bit shorter. The coat can take on some wonderful colors such as cream, tan, white, black, silver, and even chocolate.
Cavapoo puppies are known for being hypoallergenic due to the fact that they possess characteristics of both the parent breeds. Both the Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel are low-shedding, making the Cavapoo a great option for those with allergies. The Cavapoo’s coat is usually a mix of a curly and wavy texture that can be groomed to fit a specific owner’s preferences.
Before your Cavapoo’s arrival, it’s important to prepare a comfortable and safe home for them. Create a space with necessary items like a bed, toys, food and water dishes, and cleaning supplies. It’s also important to establish a routine for them early on. Set aside each day for them to receive walks, exercise, and other activities they enjoy. Additionally, it’s important to acquaint them with vet visits. Make sure all their vaccinations are up to date and that you have a health plan in place.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to be consistent, patient, and positive. When first starting out, it is important to let the puppy get accustomed to the home environment and keep their area safe and secure with barriers or gates. Begin the training process with basic commands such as sit and stay. These simple commands should be practiced in an area where the puppy is most comfortable and rewarded with verbal praise or treats. As the puppy progresses and learns the basics, gradually introduce more difficult commands.
Cavapoos are an intelligent, active breed and need a good amount of exercise to stay healthy and happy. A daily walk is usually recommended to keep your Cavapoo in good shape. Ideally, one should aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise per day for an adult Cavapoo, and shorter walks for younger puppies. For very energetic Cavapoos, additional exercise such as a few short games of fetch, or a more intense run will be necessary. Physical activity is not the only kind of exercise that Cavapoos need - they also thrive on mental stimulation.
Absolutely! Cavapoos are known for their sweet temperaments and affectionate natures, making them great companions for kids of all ages. They’re loyal and loving, and they love to be around their families so they can partake in family activities and need lots of attention. Cavapoos are excellent with children and can become very attached to them. They respond beautifully to positive reinforcement such as praise, treats and playtime and are great retrievers, so they’re perfect for games of fetch.
The main difference between f1b, F2 and other Cavapoos is in their generation. F1b is a "backcross" generation and is the result of a Cavapoo being bred back to a purebred poodle, either Standard or Miniature. F2 Cavapoos, on the other hand, are the result of two F1 Cavapoos being bred together. As such, their blood line is much more "diluted" than a f1b combination, with fewer genes from either parent.
