Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a popular hybrid designer dog that is a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. This mix produces a loving and intelligent dog, perfect for any family situation! Cavapoos can range from 8-25 pounds and typically have a wavy or curly coat in colors such as white, cream, silver, or black. As long as they are given the proper love, attention, and exercise they need, Cavapoos make wonderful companions that can bring joy and fun into a household.
The Cavapoo's coat is usually wavy or curly, and tends to be soft and fluffy. Generally, Cavapoos have a thicker undercoat and a slightly finer top coat. Many Cavapoos come in a variety of colours, but the most common are shades of red, apricot, and cream. Cavapoos also have a beautiful sheen to their coats, which makes them look extra-special. The texture of their coats can range from short and wiry to long and smooth.
While Cavapoo puppies are considered a hypoallergenic breed, it's important to understand that hypoallergenic does not mean completely allergen-free. All dogs have dander, saliva, and urine that can contribute to allergic reactions in people with allergies. Some people with severe allergies may still have negative reactions when exposed to a Cavapoo puppy. That said, Cavapoos usually produce lower levels of dander, saliva and urine compared to some other breeds, which may significantly reduce the risk of an allergic reaction.
Before your Cavapoo arrives, the best way to prepare is to research and purchase the supplies you need for your pup. Start by stocking up on the essentials like food and water dishes, a quality puppy food, toys, a crate, and a comfortable and safe bed. Next, puppy-proof your home by tucking away any items that could be a choking or strangling hazard. You also want to make sure you have a safe and secure space set up with a designated puppy area. This area should include absorbent bedding and lots of toys to keep your pup occupied.
When it comes to training a Cavapoo puppy, a positive reinforcement based approach is key. Start by introducing basic commands such as 'sit' using treats and praise. Give the puppy a treat when he successfully follows the command and give him praise to reinforce the behavior. Gradually increase the difficulty so that the puppy must perform the command without treats or verbal cues. Additionally, teaching the puppy to recognize their name and come when called is important. This is handy if you need to get them to stop chasing another dog, or out of a hazardous area.
Cavapoos need an average amount of exercise per day to stay healthy, happy, and fit. Regular exercise helps to keep their muscles toned and joints supple, and helps prevent behavioral problems. An average adult Cavapoo needs at least 30 minutes of activity every day, but this can vary depending on their age, size and individual health conditions. Typically, a 10-minute walk during the day and a 20-minute play session should be enough to meet the physical and mental needs of an adult Cavapoo.
Cavapoos are extremely friendly, gentle and intelligent dogs, making them great companions for kids. Due to their small size, Cavapoos can easily adapt to smaller living spaces and can even be kept as an indoor pet. Furthermore, the Cavapoo’s calming nature, combined with its loving affinity towards people and their ability to form strong social attachments, make them great family dogs. Cavapoos have an eagerness to please, making them easy to train and very willing to learn. Cavapoos can be taught any manner of tricks and tasks, making them great company for children.
The major difference between F1Bs, F2s, and beyond when it comes to Cavapoos lies in their hybridization and pedigree. An F1B Cavapoo is a first-generation, back-crossed Cavapoo, resulting from the crossing of a F1 Cavapoo and a Poodle. These Cavapoos are more likely to have the non-shedding and hypoallergenic coat characteristics of a Poodle. An F2 Cavapoo is the result of two F1 Cavapoos, making them a second-generation hybrid.
