Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a hybrid breed that is a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They have the intelligence of a Poodle combined with the sweet and affectionate nature of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos are usually quite small in size, typically growing to a height between 10 – 15 inches (25 – 38 cm). Their average weight also tends to stay below 15lbs (7kg). Cavapoos tend to be gentle, family-oriented dogs that get along well with children and adults, and other pets alike.
The Cavapoo's coat varies depending on the parents that they are bred from. Generally the Cavapoo has a soft, wavy coat, often with a non-shedding silky texture. The typical colors of the Cavapoo are brown, black, blonde and white. The coat can be solid or with some white markings. Depending on the type of Cavapoo, the coat may be curly or straight. Some Cavapoos may have longer and shaggier coats, while others may have short and curly coats.
Cavapoo puppies are not considered hypoallergenic, as their coats can cause allergic reactions in some people. This is particularly true if the Cavapoo is taking after its Poodle parent and has a thick, curly coat which carries more allergens than a flat-coated Cavapoo which is more like a Cavalier King Charles. While they don’t shed a huge amount, they still do shed mildly and this can lead to reactions in those who are sensitive.
When preparing for your Cavapoo’s arrival, it is important to make sure that you are ready to provide a safe and loving environment for them. First, it is important to purchase the supplies your Cavapoo will need: a comfortable bed, food, water and food bowls, chew toys, a collar and leash, and treats. You should also make sure your home is puppy-proofed: remove any hazardous items such as cords, pens, and loose coins. Make sure that all doors are secure so that your pup cannot escape.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to give them plenty of positive reinforcement and patience. Establish a regular routine and a safe space to play, as this will make it easier to restructure a Cavapoo's behaviors. You should start with basic commands such as 'sit', 'stay', and 'come' and reward the puppy with a treat or praise upon completion. During training, limit distractions and make the process enjoyable. Give the puppy frequent, short training sessions and keep them interesting.
Cavapoos need a moderate amount of exercise to stay healthy and happy. They generally require about one hour of dedicated exercise daily. This can include taking long walks, jogging, playing fetch or other activities which promote physical and mental stimulation. Additionally, Cavapoos are very intelligent and need regular mental stimulation. This can include activities like agility training, playing hide-and-seek, puzzle toys, and agility courses. Keeping the Cavapoo engaged and entertained will help them stay active and healthy.
Yes, Cavapoos tend to be great with kids! Cavapoos are incredibly affectionate and loving companions. They are incredibly friendly and affectionate, often forming strong emotional bonds with their owners, and this applies to the entire family including kids. Even though Cavapoos may be wary of loud noises or sudden movements from kids, but with plenty of patience and care, they will be happy to play and cuddle up with children. Cavapoos also seem to make excellent therapy dogs, often helping families and children with anxiety or emotional issues.
The primary difference between f1b, F2, and other F generations when it comes to Cavapoos is that f1b is the result of crossing a purebred Poodle with a purebred Toy/Miniature Poodle, while F2 is the result of crossing an F1 Cavapoo with another F1 Cavapoo. As a result, the f1b Cavapoo will be more consistent in terms of size, coat type and temperament than the F2 Cavapoo, as crossing two generally unrelated purebred dogs can produce more inconsistent and varied outcomes.
