Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a designer dog that is the result of a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. These dogs are usually quite small, weighing between 11 and 16 pounds once fully grown; they typically stand at 8 to 14 inches at the shoulder. The Cavapoo's coat texture ranges from curly to wavy to straight and is often very soft. Generally, these dogs have a long muzzle and an endearing, alert expression. They make great family pets because of their intelligence, loving natures, and playful personalities.
The Cavapoo's coat is typically wavy and soft, often shaggy-looking. The coat of a Cavapoo is usually non-shedding, making them an ideal pet for those with allergies. The fur is generally thick and curly, and may be slightly longer on the chest and stomach. Coat colors can vary greatly, from pure white to black and brown to tan, red and grey. Some Cavapoos may have an apricot-colored coat. The coat can also be wavy or straight and can be of any length ranging from short to long.
Yes, Cavapoo puppies can be considered hypoallergenic. Their unique hybrid genetics combine the hypoallergenic qualities of their parent breeds, the Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which both possess low-shedding coats. The low shedding of Cavapoo puppies reduces the risk of triggering allergic reactions from those with allergies. Cavapoo puppies are also better suited for families looking for a pet that is gentle, less yappy, and more low-maintenance than other breeds.
Before bringing home your Cavapoo, the first thing to make sure is that you have enough space and supplies for them at home. Make sure to bring basic canine supplies such as food and water dishes, a leash, a collar and ID tag, and toys. Have a proper space to designate for your Cavapoo such as a crate, bed or playpen for them to relax. If you haven’t got a fenced-in yard, you should put a safe and sturdy fence in the yard to keep your Cavapoo secure.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to begin early and use positive reinforcement and rewards-based methods. Start by teaching basic commands such as ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘stay’, and reward your pup when they obey these commands. All training should be done in an environment that’s free from distractions and it’s also important to ensure your Cavapoo puppy has plenty of opportunity to socialise and play.
Cavapoos are active dogs, but they don't need crazy amounts of exercise. They love a good walk, hike, jog, or run with their owners and love to play with a bunch of toys. Believe it or not, activities like agility training or even a game of fetch has been known to tire Cavapoos out too! Typically, one to two walks per day, with maybe 10-15 minutes of dedicated playtime should be enough to keep your Cavapoo healthy and happy.
Absolutely! Cavapoos are known for their loving and affectionate demeanor, which makes them perfect companions for children. Cavapoos are small, gentle, and social dogs which love to play and be around people in general. Cavapoos also have a kind, intelligent nature and are very willing to please their owners. They are usually very loving and patient with children, and like to join in on playtime if given the chance. With proper, patient introductions and plenty of socialization, Cavapoos can be a perfect choice for those looking for a loving family pet.
The main difference between an F1b, F2, and other generations of Cavapoos is the ratio of Poodle to Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in each one. An F1b Cavapoo is a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle, with the ratio being 75% Poodle and 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. F2 Cavapoos have a reverse ratio of mostly Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and only 25% Poodle.
