Cavapoo is a lovable, people-oriented designer breed that has skyrocketed in popularity among pet owners in recent years. Bred from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle, Cavapoos combine the sweet and gentle nature of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with an incredibly intelligent Poodle. The resulting semi-hypoallergenic hybrid tends to be quite active and friendly, making them an ideal companion for anyone looking for a loving family pet. Cavapoos range in size, but tend to stay fairly small and weigh anywhere from 15-30lbs.
The Cavapoo's coat is a unique combination of both their parent breeds - the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. Cavapoos have a moderately soft and silky coat, which can range in color from white, tan, red, or any combination of these colors. Some Cavapoo coats may also contain abstract markings or even solid patches. Whether the Cavapoo has a coat with tight curls or wavy/straight fur depends on the type of Poodle they are crossed with. Generally, their coats are low shed, which makes them ideal for people with allergies.
Cavapoo puppies are considered to be hypoallergenic because they are a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Typically, Poodles are known to be a breed that is hypoallergenic; while the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel typically isn't. However, due to the combination of the two breeds, Cavapoo puppies are believed to share some of the hypoallergenic benefits of the Poodle. Thus, Cavapoo puppies may cause fewer allergic reactions than other dog breeds.
When preparing for your Cavapoo's arrival, it's important to create a safe, comfortable and happy environment for them. Begin by researching the breed and potential health issues well in advance, so that you can purchase the necessary supplies ahead of time. Next, designate a special area for your pup, such as their own bed, toys and food bowls. Then, consider pet-proofing your home by moving any valuables, toxic and hazardous items out of the pup's reach.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to start early and to be consistent. Establish a routine and stick to it; this helps the puppy recognize that there are certain expectations for them to meet. Teaching basic obedience commands such as 'sit', 'down', 'stay', and 'come' are essential for establishing an effective line of communication between you and your pup. Additionally, positive reinforcement is key - use treats or a favourite toy to reward the puppy for favoured behaviour. The primary difference between f1b, F2, etc. when it comes to Cavapoos is the level of hybridization of the parents. Each generation (f1b, F2, etc.) refers to the amount of each purebred parent used in the mix. An f1b is the result of the breeding of an f1 Cavapoo (first generation) to a purebred Poodle, and usually consists of 75% Poodle and 25% Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
