Questions & Answers
A Cavapoo is a designer breed made by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Cavapoos are known for being loyal, friendly, and playful. These dogs typically grow to be around 10-20 lbs when fully grown, making them great for apartments and homes of any size. They came about for people who wanted to combine the best qualities of both breeds. Cavapoos tend to have the intelligence and loving nature of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel while also having the non-shedding qualities of the Poodle.
The Cavapoo's coat is usually quite soft and can vary in length from fairly short to somewhat lengthy. It usually has a wavy, silky texture and is usually a combination of the Poodle's curly and the Cavalier King Charles's straight coat. It is often a mix of colors, ranging from white, cream, apricot, red and brown, and often has some black markings. The Cavapoo's coat also tends to have a finer texture than most other types of dogs, which helps make it look very fluffy.
While Cavapoo puppies can be considered hypoallergenic, as they are a mix of both Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, this is not always the case. Each pup should be evaluated individually to determine the extent of its hypoallergenic qualities. Generally, Cavapoos have a hypoallergenic fur, as the Poodle’s hair is denser and smoother compared to other breeds. As such, the shedding of this fur is also prevented.
Preparing for the arrival of your new Cavapoo can seem overwhelming. To ensure a successful transition, there are several steps you can take. First, stock up on the basic supplies your pup needs, including food, bowls, toys and a leash and collar. Invest in a crate that is large enough for your pup to move around and make sure you choose food specifically designed for Cavapoos. You will also want to start researching veterinarians in your area so that you can schedule regular appointments.
The best way to train a Cavapoo puppy is to be consistent, patient, and positive with your training methods. Start off by teaching your puppy basic commands like sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel. Use positive reinforcement techniques such as treats and praise, and remember to keep each training session short and fun. Establish a clear routine with your Cavapoo, and always show them love and affection throughout the training process. Be sure to continue reinforcing their good behavior and reward the desired behavior while eliminating any negative behavior.
Cavapoos need moderate amounts of exercise. They are not as active as some other breeds, but they need walks and outdoor playtime every day. It's important to adjust the amount of exercise your Cavapoo gets according to their age and health. Puppies can benefit from short, frequent walks and playing indoors or in a fenced-in area. For older dogs, lower-impact activities, such as stretching, swimming, or walking at a slower pace are recommended. It's important to make sure not to overdo it, and allow your pup some time to rest.
Cavapoos are generally very loving and outgoing dogs, and they tend to be very patient and gentle with children. Cavapoos learn quickly and respond well to positive training techniques, making them ideal family pets. They are loyal, have a moderate energy level, and easily adapt to their environment, all of which make them fantastic companions for children. When properly socialized, they enjoy joining in on playtime and other activities with kids.
The main difference between f1b, F2, and other Cavapoo genealogy classifications boils down to how many generations of purebred Poodle and purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel the dog has in its family tree. An F1 Cavapoo is a first-generation cross between a purebred Poodle and a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, meaning that its parents were both purebreds.
