A French Bulldog is a breed of small domestic dog that originates in France. Its characteristic bat-like ears make it one of the most recognizable of all dog breeds. French Bulldogs have a sturdy, muscular body and a large, square head with an undershot jaw. They have short muzzles, a short tail, and fins like those of a bat. Frenchies can come in a number of colors including black, white, gray, brindle, fawn, and brindled.
French Bulldogs are characterized by their flat faces, short legs, and wide body frames. As with most breeds, they do shed a certain amount, but not nearly as much as other breeds. Start by puppy-proofing your home to keep them safe, such as by installing expensive gates and safety latches, and ensuring that any potentially dangerous items (e.g. cleaning supplies, houseplants) are out of their reach. Additionally, it's important to provide them with a designated sleeping and play area, plus comfy bedding, toys, and chewable items.
French Bulldogs are not considered to be large-breed dogs. However, they are certainly not small either. A mature French Bulldog typically stands between 11 inches and 13 inches tall and weighs between 16 and 28 pounds. By comparison, a regular “medium” dog weighs between 33 and 60 pounds. So while not considered “big” in size, they do tend to not be as small as many other breeds either. Generally speaking, it's recommended that an adult French Bulldog get at least 60 minutes of exercise per day, with a walk being one of the best ways to get that exercise. A walk should be broken into two or three segments with each walk including at least 20-30 minutes of walking time. During the summer months, it's advised that the walk is broken into shorter stints with plenty of time for rest between.
