Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid breed of dog, crossbred specifically to bring together the best of two breeds: the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Originating in North America and Australia in the 1990s, Goldendoodles are known for their abilities as companion pets, guide dogs for those with allergies, and family members of owners who live a fast-paced lifestyle. With a deeply loving, loyal and rapidly growing reputation, Goldendoodles attribute their good-natured personalities to their intelligence and adaptability.
The cost of a Goldendoodle puppy can vary greatly depending on several factors such as the breeder, the size and age of the puppy, its lineage, location, and the coat color of the puppy. You could expect to pay anywhere that $1,000 to $5,000 for a Goldendoodle, with most breeders offering one in the $1,500 - $3,000 range. However, rare color variations and higher pedigree dogs might sell for more. If a buxom coat is desired, you can expect to pay more for a furry friend.
Goldendoodles are generally considered easy to train due to their intelligence, eagerness to please, and "people-pleasing" tendencies. They are also able to learn quickly and respond well to positive reinforcement as well as consistency in their training. Early exposure to socialization is key in ensuring background noise, people, various animals and new places don't become cause for alarm. Taken altogether, Goldendoodles make an ideal pet with an easier learning curve thanks to the nature of their breed.
Goldendoodles typically live an average of 10-15 years if cared for properly. Genetics play a role in the determining the dog's lifespan, but providing a balanced and nutritious diet, regular exercise, and regular visits to the vet for check-ups can help to ensure a long and healthy life for your pup. Properly caring for your Goldendoodle will not only prolong their life, but will also better their overall quality of life as they age.
The size of a full-grown Goldendoodle can be quite varied, due to the potential size differences between their parent breeds - the small, toy-sized Poodle, and the larger-breed Golden Retriever. Generally, Goldendoodles can range from between 14 to 26 inches in height, depending on which parent breed is predominant in the mix. Goldendoodles come in four size categories: teacup, miniature, medium, and standard.
Goldendoodles are a beautiful and unique breed with a wide variety of coat types. The type of coat they have will depend on the poodle breed they were bred with. Most Goldendoodles have a medium-length, curly or wavy coat that is very low-shedding and hypoallergenic, requiring only minimal brushing and grooming to prevent matting. Goldendoodles can also have a smooth, straighter and shorter coat, considered to be the least hypoallergenic and requiring regular brushing and grooming.
Goldendoodles are active, high energy dogs and need lots of daily exercise. Physical exercise helps keep them healthy and mentally stimulated, so they will benefit from a minimum of 30 minutes to 2 hours per day. To factor in their size, age and energy level, a good rule of thumb would be to provide them with at least an hour a day of active time, such as long walks, swims, running, and even hiking. In addition to this, they will also enjoy structured activities such as behaviour training class and dog sports like agility and flyball.
Goldendoodles are an excellent choice for families with children. They have a gentle and friendly personality, which makes them tolerant of young kids and very patient with them. Goldendoodles are incredibly loving and form close bonds with kids. Not only that, but they can be socialized and trained to be obedient, making them safe and well-behaved around small children. They do require special care and supervision to prevent any accidents or misunderstandings, and it's always important to teach kids how to interact properly with pets.
