Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid breed of dog created by crossing a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. This sought-after breed of designer dog was engineered in the 1990s in an effort to produce an attractive and intelligent dog with a low-shedding or hypoallergenic coat suitable to be a guide dog. Goldendoodles typically make wonderful companions and are known as loyal and loving pets that are ideal for all family types.
The cost of a Goldendoodle can range widely, depending on the breeder, location, parental lineage, coloration and age. In general, an average Goldendoodle pup will cost anywhere between $1,000 and $3,500. Prices can sometimes rise to over $5,000 for Goldendoodles with certain bloodlines or rare colors. Prices may also be higher in more urban areas due to demand, whereas rural areas may offer cheaper Goldendoodles.
Goldendoodles can be easy to train and are known as one of the most trainable dog breeds. Typically confident, extroverted, and highly intelligent, they respond well to positive reward-based training methods such as treats, praise, and verbal reinforcement. With structured practices and set goals, they often absorb information quickly due to their eagerness to please. Good habits established in their early life are essential to guide them through adulthood, and comprehensive training and socialization are essential for Goldendoodles to be properly adjusted.
Generally, a Goldendoodle can have an average lifespan of anywhere between 10 to 15 years. As with all breeds, genetics, diet and exercise play a role in providing a long, healthy life. Adopting a regular schedule of vet visits and providing a balanced diet and exercise is the key to increasing the longevity of your Goldendoodle. However, with proper care and ample attention to their lifestyle and needs, these dogs can easily enjoy an extended lifespan, up to 20 years or more.
Generally speaking, a full-grown Goldendoodle can range in size depending on the size of the parent breeds. Standard Goldendoodles can be anywhere from 22 to 26 inches tall, while miniatures typically range from 15 to 20 inches. There are also three other size categories - teacup, small standard, and large standard - with a teacup Goldendoodle weighing between 5 to 12 pounds, small standards between 30 and 45 pounds, and large standards between 45 and 100 pounds, with a corresponding height range of between 14 to 26 inches at the shoulder.
Goldendoodles have a unique coat that can range from straight to curly, depending on their parent breeds. Generally, Goldendoodles have coats that shed less than most dog breeds, and curly coats tend to be the most low-shedding and hypoallergenic. In some cases, certain Goldendoodles will also have wavy coats, though this is less common. Grooming is key to keeping their coats healthy and looking their best, so regular brushing, combing, and baths with gentle shampoos are recommended to help maintain their coats and minimize matting.
Goldendoodles are a very active breed that need a good amount of exercise everyday to stay healthy and content. The amount of exercise they should have a day greatly depends on their size, age, and energy level. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles require at least 30-60 minutes each day of physical exercise in the form of walks, runs, playtime, or dog sports like agility and obedience training.
Goldendoodles are well-known for being great with kids – their trusting, gentle, friendly and loyal nature makes them excellent family pets. Goldendoodles love spending time with their owners, including children, and make for loyal and faithful companions. Furthermore, their intelligence and responsiveness to training makes them a great choice for families looking for a trained pet. That said, it is important to properly train your pet and to always supervise when pets and small children interact.
