Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They were first created in the 1990s on both sides of the Atlantic in an effort to create a hypoallergenic guide dog. Goldendoodles are known for their high levels of intelligence, loving and affectionate nature, and they're often favoured among allergy sufferers due to their low shedding coats.
The cost of a Goldendoodle can be affected by numerous circumstances, such as the breeder, where you buy the puppy, and its lineage. Generally speaking, Goldendoodles tend to range anywhere between $1,500 and $3,500, and can sometimes even reach up to $5,000 if the puppy is highly sought-after or has unique features such as a rare color variation. The age of the puppy, size, and color may also be factors when considering the cost.
Goldendoodles are typically quick learners and are easy to train due to their intelligence and their eagerness to please. Goldendoodles often respond well to positive reinforcement and consistency, making them highly trainable. The trainability of goldendoodles is especially present when they are properly socialized and receive plenty of mental stimulation. With an experienced handler and consistent training, Goldendoodles can very quickly learn a wide range of commands, as well as some more intricate tasks, such as agility tricks.
The average lifespan of a Goldendoodle can range from 10-15 years depending on genetics, diet, exercise, and overall care. When given proper care, exercise, and a balanced diet, Goldendoodles are generally very healthy and happy dogs that will live life to the fullest. Regular check-ups from a veterinarian and preventive care can also help to extend a Goldendoodle's lifespan. With proper routine care and plenty of love, they can be a wonderful companion for many years to come.
Goldendoodles come in four different sizes, depending on the size of the breed of Poodle used in breeding. The teacup Goldendoodle is the smallest, typically standing under 15 inches tall, and weighing no more than 6-8 pounds. The miniature Goldendoodle is slightly bigger, usually weighing between 15 and 30 pounds, and standing 15-20' in height. Medium Goldendoodles can weigh on average between 30 and 45 pounds, while large standard Goldendoodles weigh between 45 and 100 pounds, and can stand as tall as 26 inches.
Goldendoodles typically have a curly, wavy or straight coat, or some combination thereof. Depending on the specific combination of their parents, their coat may be anywhere from soft and silky to rough and fluffy. A Goldendoodle's coat is most likely low-shedding, which people with allergies tend to prefer, and they require regular grooming to maintain its health and keep it free of matting. Goldendoodles can be groomed either manually or with a furminator and many owners enjoy this bonding experience with their beloved pet.
Goldendoodles are an active breed that definitely need regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Generally, it is recommended to give a Goldendoodle 30 minutes to 2 hours of exercise per day. How much they need depends on the individual based on the dog’s size, age and energy level. This range in time needed for exercise provides plenty of flexibility to work within the lifestyle of the pet owner, whether it’s brisk walks, active playtime or running at a dog park.
Goldendoodles are typically excellent companions for kids. Their intelligence, friendly demeanor and loyal nature help foster an excellent relationship with their human family members of all ages, especially children. Goldendoodles are patient and gentle, often forming strong bonds with their family. However, it is important to ensure that all interactions between kids and Goldendoodles are appropriately supervised and that socialization and proper training are given to ensure a tolerant and well-behaved pup. As they are intelligent creatures and relatively easy to train,Goldendoodles make a terrific, loyal companion for kids.
