Questions & Answers
A Goldendoodle is a hybrid dog breed that has origins dating back to the 1990s. This canine is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle and is characterized by a loving, gentle temperament as well as a low-shedding coat. Although active and full of energy, Goldendoodles make wonderful pets for families due to their intelligence and willingness to learn. They are cherished for their adaptability to various lifestyles and habitats and many households who suffer from allergies have found the Goldendoodle to be the ideal companion.
The buying price of a Goldendoodle puppy can vary greatly, depending on demands such as the puppy's age, size, origin and even its coat color. Depending on the breeding, location and service offered with your puppy, on average prices are somewhere between $1,000 to as much as $3,500 or sometimes even higher for particularly sought after puppies. Any extras such as a puppy package with all the appropriate certifications and papers can definitely increase the cost, but for most new pet owners the best environment to purchase a Goldendoodle tends to be from quality screened breeders.
Goldendoodles are highly intelligent and eager to please, making them excellent candidates for training. They can easily learn and perform new commands, such as obedience and agility tasks, with the right amount of persistence and positive reinforcement. From the earliest stage in their development, Goldendoodles require consistent guidelines, as well as plenty of socialization and positive reinforcement, to ensure they grow up to be obedient, confident, and well- adjusted pets. With consistent and positive training, Goldendoodles are generally quick learners and easy to train.
Generally, a Goldendoodle has an average lifespan of between 10 and 15 years. This can be extended or shortened depending on a variety of factors, such as diet, exercise, lifestyle, and good health care provided. A diet comprised of quality food, regular physical activity, and regular check-ups from a vet are all important for Goldendoodles. Vaccines, parasite prevention, dental care, and more are all great ways to ensure longevity and help your pup live to their full potential.
The size of an adult Goldendoodle largely depends on the size of their parents-an adult Goldendoodle descendant of toy or miniature Poodles will usually reach an adult height of around 14-20 inches, while an adult Goldendoodle of standard Poodle parentage can range anywhere from 24 inches and up, depending on the individual puppy. They can also weigh anywhere from 15-100 pounds, ranging in size initially from a small miniature up to a large standard.
Goldendoodles generally have soft and fluffy coats, thanks to their mixed heritage. Although some Goldendoodles have a straight coat like that of a Golden Retriever, most will display a combination of the two coat types from both parents. A Goldendoodle's coat type can be wavy, curly, coarse, or silky depending on the genetics of the two parent breeds. Goldendoodles may also be considered hypoallergenic, as the coat tends to repel dander, dust and pollen.
Goldendoodles are an active breed that need consistent daily exercise to stay healthy and happy. Depending on the size of the Goldendoodle, exercise needs can vary from 30 minutes to as long as two hours each day. This can include any combination of activities like running, jogging, walks, swimming, camping or even agility and obedience training. Generally, an hour of exercise per day is recommended, however, if the Goldendoodle has a lot of energy or is a larger breed, then their daily exercise requirements may be closer to two hours.
Goldendoodles make wonderful pets for families with children! They are known to be patient and gentle, have an intelligence level that allows them to learn quickly, and they tend to form strong bonds with their "people." Plus, they're incredibly loving and loyal! Another plus is that, if properly socialized and trained when they're young, Goldendoodles can be trusted around little ones. However, if a Goldendoodle spends little to no time with children, supervision is essential.
