Havaneses are an intelligent and loyal breed of small, companion dogs. They have a long, silky coat that ranges in colors such as white, black and tan, blue, and cream. The Havaneses have a round head and an alert, friendly expression. They are known for their intelligence and their fun-loving nature. Havaneses typically weigh between 7 and 13 pounds and live an average of 10 to 15 years. They typically do not do well in hot climates and won't bark excessively.
The Havanese coat is a beautiful, silky coat which has a unique curl pattern to it. It's usually a multi-layered coat which is dense, yet still soft and fluffy to touch. Depending on the Havanese it could either be short or long, but in both cases will require regular brushing. It does not shed excessively, making it perfect from those with allergies or those just wanting a low-maintenance dog. It is also water-resistant due to its texture, and can come in a large array of colors, ranging from white and caramel to chocolate and black.
It is important to feed your Havanese a nutritionally complete and balanced diet. Look for a food that is specifically designed for small breed dogs like yours and that meets the standards set by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Usually these are labeled as “complete and balanced.” To ensure the highest quality, look for a food with few artificial preservatives and fillers and a high-quality protein source, like chicken or fish.
Preparing your home for a new Havanese is an important step in making them feel comfortable and safe in their new home.
