Havaneses are an small and smart companion dogs known for their bright personalities and intelligence. They are also called "the velvet paw" because of their unique look and long, silky coats. They require minimal grooming, but are surprisingly active and athletic for their size. Havaneses are great family pets because they are incredibly loyal and form strong bonds, often becoming very attached to one primary family member. They are rather vocal and have a signature bark that sounds like a rubber duck. They do best with positive reinforcement training, as they are intelligent and thrive when given love and direction.
The Havanese breed has a unique and beautiful coat which makes them stand out from other breeds. It is a single coat that is long, silky and non-shedding. The hair is typically curly or wavy and can range from very light in color to deep chocolate brown.
