Havanese are intelligent, loving, and playful toy-sized dogs that originate from the Bichon family. They are the only native breed from Cuba and are considered to be the only toy-sized dog that was recently developed. They are known to be very people oriented and have a great aptitude for learning and succeeding almost any trick. Havanese have been known to have a very independent streak and thrive in a loving but not overbearing home. Havanese are hypoallergenic and a great companion for those who have allergies.
The Havanese coat is a truly unique, eye-catching experience. It is a combination of two different texture coats, the top coat being wavy or curly and the undercoat being silky and soft, creating an interesting and distinct look. The ideal coat is about two inches in length and can come in a variety of colors, some of the most popular being white, cream, silver, and gold. They also have black tipped hairs around the facial area, referred to as the "puppy mask".
