Labrador Retrievers are an intelligent, loyal, and well-mannered breed that makes a great family pet. They typically range in weight from 55-80lbs and stand 21.5-24.5 inches tall. These dogs are very energetic and are known for their strong swimming capabilities, making them great swimming and sporting partners. Labradors are extremely friendly and thrive on companionship, so they may not be the best breed for people who work long hours. They require regular daily exercise, mental stimulation, and lots of love and attention in order to remain happy and healthy.
Labrador Retrievers have a beautiful double coat with a soft undercoat and a thick, weather-resistant top coat. The most common coat colors for Labradors are black, chocolate, and yellow; however, they can also come in silver, white, and/or red. The top coat of the Labrador Retriever is typically short, flat, and sleek, enabling water to roll over the fur and dry quickly. As an excellent working breed, their coats are both hard and flexible, promoting body heat retention and allowing for freedom of movement.
Labrador Retrievers, as with most medium-to-large sized breeds, need a diet that is balanced and tailored to their activity level and their age. A superior quality foods such as proteins, healthy fats and wholesome carbohydrates such as grains should make up the bulk of a Labrador Retriever's diet. Other sources of nutrition come from vegetables, fruits and other supplement sources such as eggs, fish oils, vitamins and minerals.
