The Maltipoo coat is characterized by its wavy, silky appearance. It is a hypoallergenic, low-shedding breed, usually non-matting and needing little in the ways of grooming. Depending on the combination of its parent breeds, a Maltipoo can have a single or double-layered coat of slightly longer curls which can vary between straight, wavy, and curly textures. Since they may inherit both the short, straight Poodle coat as well as the long, curly Maltese one, there is great variation among individual Maltipoos.
