Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an Arctic breed of dog, which is a mix of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They usually weigh between 10-30 lbs, although some may be smaller or larger than this. Pomskies have an extremely affectionate nature, and their intelligence makes them a great companion for families. They are also known to be great escape artists, so secure fencing is necessary. This breed does not shed very much, but regular grooming is advised. They require a lot of exercise, and their love for being outside makes them ideal candidates for a living.
A Pomsky’s coat is incredibly unique, making them stand out from the crowd! They typically have a beautiful, thick double coat that is a mix of the two breed standards’ a Pomeranian’s and a Husky’s varying in color. Most often these hybrids’ fur is a mix of black and white with some shades of gray, but some may have blond and red, or all different combinations of other colors! During the winter months, their coats may become fluffier and much thicker in order to keep them warm and insulated.
Pomskies have specific dietary needs since they have both Siberian Husky and Pomeranian genetics. The best diet for a Pomsky should include high-quality dog food that is specially formulated for a smallto medium-sized breed. The food should have healthy ingredients like lean proteins, oats, barley and other whole grains, as well as fruits and vegetables plus healthy fats like fish oil. Make sure to look for foods specifically formulated for Pomskies, as these are more likely to contain more of the specific ingredients that your dog needs for optimal health.
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, it's important to make sure your home is prepared. Start by setting up a space of their own that they can retreat to if they need some time to adjust. Make sure the space has their bed, some toys or chew items, and a few treats. Blankets, cushions and pillows are also a good idea so they can go somewhere comfortable to snuggle. Also, ensure that any houseplants you have are safe for your puppy, since chewing on some can be toxic. Run through the house and do a puppy-proofing.
Pomskies are a designer hybrid cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky and can typically reach 12-15 inches in height and 20-30 pounds in weight. Although this breed of dog is a relatively small breed, they look considerably bigger due to their thick, luxurious fur and stout frame. As with most breeds, their weight can depend on the size of their parents and general nutrition. Taking good care of your Pomsky will ensure it reaches its full potential and will remain healthy and fit.
Pomskies are indeed a very active breed of dog. They have a lot of energy and can really benefit from regular exercise and mental stimulation, especially when they are young. A properly stimulated and exercised Pomsky will live a happy, healthy life and can make a great pet for an active family. They do require a great deal of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise, and if these needs are not met, the dog can become restless and destructive. Pomskies usually enjoy going on walks and playing interactive games with their owners.
Pomskies make excellent family dogs! They are a hybrid cross of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, creating a medium-sized, affectionate, and intelligent canine companion. Pomskies tend to be great with children, as they love attention and to be around their family. Thanks to their small size, they are easy to take care of and keep. With proper exercise, Pomskies remain loyal, friendly, and active. They are also known to bark less than other breeds, adding to their appeal as great family pets.
Training your Pomsky is a great way to build strong bonds with your pet, create a lifetime of positive experiences, and nurture an obedient and friendly companion. To get the most out of your training sessions, it is important to establish a consistent routine for your Pomsky. Start with simple commands such as ‘sit’, ‘come’ and ‘stay’. Use a firm but gentle tone when giving commands, and make sure to reward your dog with praise and/or treats when they meet your expectations.
