Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer breed that was created by crossing a Siberian Husky with a Pomeranian. Pomskies are generally intelligent and active, and make for excellent companions for families with children. They are generally good-natured and love to be around people, although they can also be a bit independent. They typically grow to between 8-18 pounds and reach a height of up to 16 inches. Pomskies have a beautiful double coat, and their colors can range from grey and white to brown, black, and even red or tan.
Pomskies generally have a thick double-coated fur that is similar to that of a Siberian Husky but usually softer and finer. Their coats can come in a variety of colors, including black, white, gray, red, and grey & white; though more unique colors such as cream, sable, or even a merle pattern are not unheard of. The coat also has an undercoat which helps keep them warm during the colder seasons, making them great for colder climates. Some Pomskies may even have a wooly-type undercoat.
Though Pomskies are known to be hardy and resilient dogs, they still have a few dietary needs that should be taken into account for their optimal health. The best diet for a Pomsky includes high-quality food, free of by-products and fillers, with plenty of protein. It is important to avoid overfeeding, as well as salty, fatty, and high-sugar foods. It is a good practice to feed your Pomsky twice a day and give them access to fresh, clean water at all times.
Preparing for a new Pomsky can be both exciting and overwhelming! To ensure your pup is set for success, it's important to take the time to adequately prepare for the arrival of your new friend. Before bringing them home, make sure to have a comfy bed or crate, food, treats, and chew toys. You may also want to speak with a trained/experienced vet or doggy behaviorist for helpful advice about what to expect. Additionally, it can be beneficial to plan for pet-proofing your home and beginning positive potty and obedience training.
The size of your Pomsky puppy can vary quite a bit, depending on the ancestry of each parent. If the litter has parents that are both full-sized Pomeranians and Siberian Huskies, you could expect the adult pup to be anywhere from 10 to 18 pounds, standing 12 to 15 inches tall at full growth. If one of the parents is a Toy Pomeranian and the other a mini Husky, you would expect an adult pup to weigh around 9 to 16 pounds, standing 10 to 14 inches tall.
Yes, Pomskies are highly active dogs known for their intelligence and eagerness to explore and learn. They tend to be smaller in size, but that doesn't mean they don't need plenty of exercise. A Pomsky would make an excellent running partner or playmate, as they are naturally active and need plenty of stimulation to stay healthy and happy. They may become destructive if they're not given enough attention, so it's important to give them plenty of exercise and activities to engage them mentally and physically.
Pomskies make wonderful family dogs! They form tight bonds with their people and love spending time with them. They are also highly intelligent and easy to train, making them a great addition to families with children. Pomskies are loyal and affectionate, and they love getting involved in family activities. They are not demanding by nature and generally content with short and regular activities with their people. Furthermore, they are the perfect size for smaller homes and enjoy cuddling on the couch and going for walks with the family.
Pomsky training can be a challenging yet rewarding experience. It all depends on the individual pet and the level of patience and commitment of their owner. Proper socialization and training are key aspects of a successful relationship with this breed. Having consistency and dedication to the training is important, as with any breed, to ensure that both you and your pet develop a happy and secure bond. Obedience and agility training are beneficial for Pomskies as they possess an intelligence and a strong desire to please their owners.
