Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an adorable crossbreed between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. The breed combines the intelligence, loyalty and playfulness of the Pomeranian with the look and energy of the Husky. They are small but mighty, with some weighing in at a petite seven pounds and others reaching up to twenty! They have a double coat and come in a variety of colors, including black and white, red and white, and cream and white. Additionally, they usually have blue eyes due to the genes they inherit from the Husky.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed that is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, and generally have low to moderate shedding tendencies. While Pomskies do have fur, they have thick double coats which make them somewhat less prone to shedding than a large number of other breeds. Those who are extremely sensitive to pet hair should be aware that while they are not completely non-shedding, they do shed less than a majority of other breeds.
Since Pomskies are a hybrid breed, it's especially important to feed them the right type of diet tailored to their needs as a type of small companion dog. Keep in mind that because of their smaller stature, Pomsky puppies should be fed up to three times per day, while adult Pomskies do well when eating two balanced meals per day. Your Pomsky's dietary needs should also fit their lifestyle and age.
When preparing your home for your new Pomsky, there are several things you should consider. First, make sure your home is puppy-proofed by putting away any dangerous materials and making sure they won't be able to reach them. Second, set up a designated area for your puppy with an area for sleeping, eating, and playing. This area should have a comfortable space and provide them with everything they need. Third, have plenty of toys to engage your puppy and keep them occupied. Lastly, create space for you and your puppy to bond by giving them plenty of attention and affection.
Pomskies typically reach sizes between 10 and 15 inches at the shoulder when full grown. They can range from around 10-25 pounds in weight, with the smaller end being more preferable. Generally, Pomskies are on the larger side of small-breed dogs, though their size mostly depends on which of the two parent breeds (Siberian husky and Pomeranian) the puppy takes after. As a general rule, smaller litters will tend to favor the smaller parents, and larger litters the larger parents.
Pomskies are both active and alert dogs that enjoy engaging activities to keep entertained. They are bred from both the Pomeranian and Siberian husky breeds which are both breeds known for their high energy levels. Owners should plan for daily walks, play sessions, and puzzle toys for these intelligent pups, as Pomskies thrive on mental as well as physical stimulation. This breed is happiest when they have a job to do and will not stay satisfied when surrounded by boredom. Pomskies are social, affectionate dogs that will be happy alongside their families or playing in a secure yard.
Pomskies are a relatively new breed, a hybrid between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, and they make an excellent family pet. They are smart, loyal, and loving, and they respond well to training. They are active and have a lot of energy, so they will need regular exercise and active playtime. Pomskies are very intelligent and need stimulation and activity to be happy. They are very social and will do best with families who can provide them with the companionship and attention they need.
Training a Pomsky can be a rewarding experience! Start by familiarizing yourself with the breed and its needs. Potty training and basic commands should be your first priorities. Make sure to use positive reinforcement and remain calm and consistent while providing rewards when he or she behaves correctly. Stimulate your pup's mind with interactive training tools like scent puzzles and agility obstacles. Give your puppy plenty of exercise to help keep them healthy and active. Also, keep in mind that socializing your pup early on is important for them to become confident and behave calmly around others.
