Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a hybrid dog mix, a cross between an Alaskan Husky and a Pomeranian. They have a thick double-coat that can come in a variety of colors, anywhere from black, white and grey, to brown and creamy. Pomskies tend to be an active breed and need a little bit of exercise each day to stay healthy. They are also excellent watchdogs and can alert you if something is wrong. Their intelligence and ability to learn commands means that they are great for obedience training.
Pomskies are a new hybrid breed, so their shedding levels can vary. However, it is generally accepted that these dogs are non-shedders due to the fact that both parent breeds, the Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, are breeds that either shed very little or not at all. Their coats are typically very thick and full, which make them great for owners who want a beautiful, plush coat but don't want the hassle of excessive shedding.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed of the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian dog. As such, they are descendants of very different breeds, which means that their dietary needs will be unique to them. While the average Siberian Husky is considered to be a working breed, with higher energy needs, the Pomeranian is more of a pet breed and has moderate energy requirements. As a result, the optimal diet for Pomskies should combine these two needs in order to provide just the right amount of energy while also meeting their health needs.
Becoming the best puppy parent while awaiting a Pomsky is not a difficult task. To best prepare, research everything you can about the breed, including dietary, exercise and care requirements. Make sure you understand the health risks and needs associated with owning a Pomsky, and how to respond if they arise. Additionally, gather the items you need that are specific to the breed; crate, bedding, food, treats and toys. Speak to your veterinarian and determine the immunization schedule that is recommended for puppies.
Pomskies are known to typically grow to be around 9-14 inches in height while weighing between 8-20 lbs. Generally, they appear very compact and sturdy and their fluffy coats tend to make them look larger than they actually are. Depending on the genetic make up of their parents, some Pomskies may be smaller or larger than the typical size. It is important to consider the size of the parent breeds, which is the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky.
Pomskies are relatively active dogs, so it's important to ensure your pup gets the exercise it needs. The exact amount of exercise needed for a Pomsky depends on the individual dog's age, size and fitness level. Generally, around 30 minutes a day of vigorous exercise is necessary in order to maintain the health and happiness of your Pomsky. However, any particularly active dogs, or those that are younger, may benefit from additional and/or longer bouts of exercise. It's best to consult your veterinarian for an accurate estimation of exactly how much exercise your Pomsky needs.
Pomskies are generally beloved family dogs. With the combination of Pomeranian and Siberian Husky, they have a lot to offer as a companion. They are sociable, friendly, and cheerful, and they enjoy spending time with their family. These small dogs are also quite intelligent, loyal, and eager to learn new tasks. They can also be a great fit for an active lifestyle, since they are quite athletic with an energetic, spirited attitude and can participate in activities like running, Frisbee, and agility competitions.
To adequately train your Pomsky, it's important to use consistent and positive reinforcement. Begin by teaching your pup basic commands such as 'sit', 'stay', and 'come' as this will help to establish your authority as the leader of the pack. It's also a good idea to set some boundaries as this will help your pup understand what behaviors are acceptable and what are not. As with most dog breeds, your Pomsky will respond best to rewards-based training, so make sure to give generous treats and praise whenever they follow your commands.
