Questions & Answers
Pomskies, also known as a Pomeranian/Husky mix, are cute and cuddly dogs full of energy and character.
Pomsky coats come in a variety of colors, patterns, and lengths. They're generally quite thick and dense, with a straight or wavy outer coat, and a wooly undercoat, which all together keeps them warm and comfortable no matter the climate. Pomskies have double coats that can range from a light, silky sheen, to a denser, fluffier feel. Depending on the mix of their Siberian Husky and Pomeranian parent breeds, the coat can range from long, short and medium hair, to a mixture of all three.
Pomskies, also known as a Pomeranian-Husky mix, require a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins in order to stay healthy and prosper. Feed your pup an all-natural diet containing lean proteins such as fish, poultry, or quality meats. High-quality Complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, whole grain cereals and oatmeal make a great addition. Supplement your pup’s diet with kale, spinach, carrots and other fresh fruits and vegetables. Don’t forget quality fats, such as Omega-3 oils, to provide essential nutrients.
Before bringing your new Pomsky home, there are a few things you should do to make sure your home is an ideal environment. Start by establishing a designated space with the necessities such as food, water, toys, and bedding. This should be a well-ventilated, temperature-controlled space that offers plenty of space and privacy. Additionally, childproofing the house is extremely important, as Pomskies may chew and ingest dangerous items. Regularly clean carpets, floors, and surfaces in and around your living space to minimize potential allergies and other health risks.
Pomskies come in many different sizes. Generally, they range from 10-15 inches tall and 8-18 pounds. The weight and size of each individual Pomsky will depend on the actual mix of the parent breeds and the puppy’s genetics, however. For example, if a Pomsky is bred from a larger Pomeranian and an Alaskan Husky, the pup is likely to be larger than the average size. Conversely, the pup could be particularly small if it is from two smaller parent breeds.
Everyone's exercise needs are different, however as a rule of thumb, it's a good idea to walk a Pomsky for at least 30 minutes per day. Walking for a longer duration and incorporating rigorous activity like playing fetch in the yard or setting up an agility course may be beneficial for your pup, as it helps them stay healthy, builds stamina, and strengthens the bond between you. But even if you don't have much time, a brisk walk of at least 20 minutes might be enough to work out your furry friend's muscles and ensure they get the exercise they need.
Pomskies often make excellent, loyal family companions. They have all the attributes of a good family dog: they are intelligent, affectionate, and love to play. They can be easily trained and are typically very protective of their owners. Pomskies are also generally quite sociable with other humans and animals, thus making them ideal for those with young children and/or an active household. When it comes to exercise, Pomskies typically will need the same amount of activity as all other small-medium sized breeds, though some may require less depending on their activity level.
Training a Pomsky is not necessarily an easy task. Though the breed is known for its obedience and intelligent nature, the training process can be demanding for both the pet and its owner. In order to ensure success, owners should be willing to dedicate consistent time and effort in order to ensure that the pup is learning in an effective and entertaining way. Consider enrolling your pup in an obedience class or reading up on best training practices and constructive reinforcement techniques. Positive reinforcement and consistency are key to positive training results with any breed, and a Pomsky is no exception.
