Questions & Answers
Pomskies are an adorable cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian that make for an animated, affectionate and stubborn companion. Apart from being a loyal and lively pet, there are some interesting facts about Pomskies that many don't know. For instance, these dogs require lots of exercise and are loved for their dedication to jogging and playing games – ideally with their owner. Furthermore, they don't need too much grooming, only occasional brushing and baths. Their thick coats can keep them warm in temperatures as low as 16 degrees Fahrenheit and they thrive in colder climates.
Pomskies are in fact non-shedding breeds and are a popular breed amongst pet owners that are looking for a pet that won't shed as much. The Pomsky is a hybrid breed which is a result of cross breeding a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian, two non-shedding dogs. The Pomsky won't shed as much as other breeds either and the average amount of shedding you can expect can vary greatly, depending on the individual dog. In general, the amount of shedding is considered to be minimal and very manageable.
Pomskies are active, intelligent, and curious dogs so they need a nutritious diet of quality protein and carbohydrates as well as vitamins and minerals. An ideal Pomsky diet should include proteins like chicken, fish, oatmeal, beets, yogurt, and eggs. For carbs, grains are a good source of energy and many Pomskies enjoy rice, rye, and barley. Fruits and vegetables can also be included in their diet in small amounts, but make sure to avoid those that are toxic to dogs, such as grapes and onions.
Being the best possible puppy parent for your Pomsky means taking the time to ensure your home is prepared for their arrival and that you are ready for the special bond you two will form. Taking some of the initial steps to prepare for your new pup before they arrive will go a long way in making your home a great environment for your pup and promoting a healthy, trusting relationship between you and your fur baby. Start by doing research on the breed of dog you are getting, so you can get an idea of what their needs may be.
Pomskies come in a variety of sizes depending on the litter and the lineage of the parents. Standard sizes generally range from 10-20 pounds, with Teacups under 10 pounds, and Giants over 20 pounds. The exact size of a given litter can be determined by measuring the height and weight of the puppies once they have been born. It's important to keep in mind that a Pomsky's adult size can be difficult to predict due to their Hybrid status.
Pomskies are very active dogs and need plenty of exercise, usually 60 90 minutes a day. While some activites can be done in the yard, it is important to take your Pomsky for a walk several times a week to ensure they are getting the exercise they need. They require an outlet to burn off all their energy, such as running and playing fetch. If you’re unable to spend a fair amount of time with your Pomsky, you should plan to get more help from a friend, neighbor, dog walker or dog daycare facility.
Pomskies are a fantastic choice for a family dog, with their affectionate and friendly temperament being perfect for households with children and other animals. They are small enough to not take up too much space, but still large enough to be great walking companions. Pomskies need moderate exercise, making them a great breed for small-space living. In addition, they are loyal and affectionate, so they become very attached to their family and love getting loads of attention. They usually respond very well to training and learn new tricks quickly.
Training a Pomsky is not necessarily easy, but it is possible with a lot of dedication and consistency. Everyone's experience is different, but the key to success is to establish a routine and provide consistent reinforcement when they do something that is desired. It can take time to get the results that you want, but over time the dog will learn what is expected of them. Patience, persistence and mild punishment (in the form of "No", not physical punishment) are important when it comes to effectively training your Pomsky.
