Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a relatively new breed of designer dog. They are across between a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, combining the best traits from both breeds. Pomskies are highly intelligent and alert dogs, making them a great companion for active owners. They have observed to be quite friendly and outgoing and eager to please their owners. Due to their thick, double-coated fur, Pomskies are able to withstand cold temperatures and will thrive with regular exercise outdoors in cooler seasons.
The Pomsky coat is a highly sought-after trait. Generally, the breed sports a short-to-medium double-coat that stands out due to its lovely length and soft texture. The undercoat is often thick and soft, while the outercoat is typically made up of straight, although sometimes wavy, guard hairs. The coloring of the coat can vary critically, but most specimens have either a gray, red or tan base color with a mix of white and brown throughout.
Pomskies are Siberian Husky-Pomeranian mixes, so their diet needs to be composed of both breeds. Generally, it is recommended to feed them high-quality food with proteins from animal and fish sources. Avoid grain-based kibble; Pomskies may have issues with wheat and soy allergies. They also need omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids for healthy skin and coat. Meat by-products, corn, and other fillers should also be avoided. It is important to feed them according to their size, age, metabolism, and activity level.
Before you bring your new Pomsky home, there are several steps you should take to ensure they have a comfortable and dignified start to life in your home. First, make sure your home is properly puppy-proofed by blocking off dangerous cabinets, electrical cords, and other areas that could be hazardous. Secondly, provide your pet with a comfortable, spacious sleeping area with a bed, crate, or another appropriate option. Additionally, have plenty of toys, treats, and introductory training materials on hand to help your new Pomsky adjust to their new environment.
Pomskies generally grow to be quite small, much smaller than many other dog breeds. On average, they can reach heights of up to 16 inches and weigh between 10 and 30 pounds once fully grown. Although, size larger or smaller than this range is not unheard of. It is important to note that, since the Pomsky is a relatively new breed, there is some variance in the size of any individual dog. A Pomsky with a milder Husky gene presence in their lineage is likely to be on the smaller end of the size spectrum.
Pomskies are a hybrid breed of the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky. As such, they require a moderate amount of exercise to keep them healthy, energetic and happy. Depending on the size of the animal, typical adults should get anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour of physical activity per day. Such activities could include brisk walks, jogs or runs, romping and playing with other pets as well as interactive play with their owners. Always remember to factor in and monitor any environmental factors such as temperature when opting for outdoor activities.
Pomskies are very good with kids! They are friendly, intelligent and energetic, which makes them great playmates for children. Pomskies are outgoing creatures and they enjoy spending time with their families. They also tend to form strong bonds with their humans and they are typically quite affectionate and gentle. They are loyal to their families and can be great companions for children. Since they are energetic, children can have a great time running around and playing with them, and teaching a Pomsky commands and tricks.
Training your Pomsky requires patience, determination, consistency, and positive reinforcement. The most effective way to train your pup is through consistent, positive reinforcement. When your pup behaves correctly and appropriately, reward them with treats and praise. With repetition and consistency, your Pomsky will begin to understand which behaviors are desirable and which are not. Training sessions should be kept short and take place in a safe and controlled environment. Set aside a few weeks to gradually introduce basic commands, such as "come," "sit," "stay," and "down," and practice each command for a few minutes a day.
