Questions & Answers
Pomskies are a designer hybrid of a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian. They are highly active, loving, and loyal dogs with a thick double coat of beautiful colors. They usually have the energy level of Huskies and the cuddliness of Pomeranians and can get along with other animals. They are an intelligent breed, loving human contact and are easy to train. However, Pomskies can be difficult to potty-train and can be destructive when bored. It's important to provide plenty of stimulation and walk them daily to help keep them entertained.
Pomskies are not considered hypoallergenic because unfortunately, no dog is completely hypoallergenic. The amount of dander, saliva, and urine produced contribute to allergies in many people, regardless of the purity of their pedigree. That said, Pomskies are considered low-shedding dogs and generally produce much less dander than other breeds, so they are a great option for those who are prone to allergies.
Pomskies are a hybrid of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky, so when it comes to feeding your Pomsky you need to find the right balance between what is best for a Husky and what is best for a Pomeranian. Generally, you should feed your Pomsky a complete and balanced diet specifically formulated for small breed dogs or puppies, though you should adjust the quantity of their food to compensate for their size and activity level. Make sure you offer them both wet and dry food options as Pomsky health is affected positively or negatively by both.
Preparing your home for a new Pomsky is a rewarding experience. Firstly, create a comfortable space for your pup. Ensure that their bed, blankets and toys are in a low-traffic area of your home. Consider crate training to ensure your pup can have their own space and become more accustomed to their environment. Secondly, stock up on the essentials such as food, treats, and bowls. Ensure your pup has access to fresh water at all times throughout the day. Finally, establish house rules for your Pomsky about behavior, feeding, and proper toileting.
The size of your Pomsky puppy will depend on a number of factors, including the parent breeds and genetic history. Generally, you can expect a Pomsky to be in the smallto medium-size range when fully grown. Most range from 8 to 15 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 15 and 35 pounds once fully-matured. As a hybrid of two miniature-sized breeds, Pomskies tend to remain smaller than their full-grown parents.
A Pomsky is an active, intelligent, and social breed, and as such it's important to give them at least an hour of exercise a day. This should include at least 20 minutes of walking, and then you can incorporate other activities such as playing fetch, going to the dog park, or doing agility or obedience training. A good rule of thumb is to provide your Pomsky with at least 5 minutes of exercise per month of life, so a 4 month old pup should have at least 20 minutes per day.
Pomskies can certainly make great family dogs! They are remarkably intelligent and respond well to training and socialization. With strong herding and watchdogging instincts, this breed can be quite protective of their family, making them an ideal companion for households with kids. Pomskies typically enjoy the company of their family members and can be quite playful at times. Moreover, their small size makes them a low-maintenance breed that is easy to care for at home.
Training a Pomsky is not necessarily easy, but with patience and consistency it can be accomplished. As with any breed, a successful outcome hinges on the human-animal bond, as well as a consistent approach to socializing and teaching basic commands. Daily walks and positive reinforcement, whether it be verbal or physical rewards, are also key to a successful training program. Training can be a fun and rewarding process for both you and your Pomsky, but it is important to recognize the level of commitment necessary to obtain the desired results.
